Against the cull

Anyone who follows me on Twitter will know that yesterday I had a bit of a rant! Elin Jones (@elinjonesplaid) is the Rural Affairs Minister for the Welsh Assembly government and has yesterday authorised the cull of thousands of Badgers across Wales.

The cull was recently overturned but has now been accepted despite a huge amount of scientific evidence that it is highly likely it would do nothing to stop the spread of TB to cattle and in fact could possibly make the situation worse!

Many organisations including 'New Scientist' and the RSPCA have spoken out against it with the RSPCA stating "a badger cull could cause enormous suffering and actually increase the spread of disease" and New Scientist 'Badger Culls do not solve TB problem'. Publications such as the Guardian and the BBC have also published/broad casted reports suggesting the same..

Many land owners/farmers have also opposed the cull due to scientific trials show it is unlikely to help. You can see various youtube videos of Badger Cullers/Killers turning up on these people's land in masks to kill these creatures and the land owners being arrested if they try to resist! You can see the 'Pembrokshire against the Cull's website here.

I could go on and on and on but I'm not the most eloquent writer and many other sites can explain the details a lot better than I!

I have however made the following illustrations that I would love love love to share with you. If you are interested in receiving the high res versions then please email me at frithastrickland at hotmail dot com. I can also get them printed out and sent (free of charge) to anyone who would like to display them so don't hesitate to ask! Thanks so much! xoxo

This is confusing. I wonder what the underlying motive for pushing this motion through, despite the contrary expert opinion. Seems a litle shadey.
Love your posters. Can you email me the jpegs and I'll write about it too.

Thanks Emily! The reason she is doing it is that lots of farmers think it will make it better (despite all the scientific doubt) and by doing this she wins cheap votes! Emailing you now! :) xx
