Tavi Gevinson

Cast your mind back to being 14 years old..for me it was cutting my hair short for the first time, plastic butterfly clips in my hair and ying and yang studs in my ears. It was getting a game boy colour as a leaving present from my friends and moving to another country. It was tie die dresses and silk shirts and my favourite puma pumps. It was knowing nothing about fashion and only starting to get into good music (not including the terrible Eimenem and Linkin Park phase). My god it was 11 years ago! If I were to read anything I would have written back then (and I did keep a diary of sorts) it would mainly detail the comings and goings of my two pet rats, my addiction to the 'new' computer game 'The Sims' and maybe something like how I had decided to become a jewellery maker/rare stone collector/artist/poet/writer...
I certainly was no where near as cool as this girl.
I first read about Tavi when she was spotted at the recent NY fashion week and meant to check out what the fuss was about. I only got a chance to look at her blog today, for a 14 year old I am pretty much astounded by all she has achieved! To be on the cover of POP magazine at 11 is pretty much cool enough but I love how unfazed she is about the fashion world. I was impressed reading this post that whilst sitting next to Anna Wintour (who for the record I think is a terrible person) instead of gushing about it actually reflected that the adult world is alot like high school. She seems totally grounded despite being a fashion darling. I also love how her clothes styles are completely mental without being 'I'm a fashionista, I'm going to colour block or wear some geek glasses or a massive fur coat' she just seems to want to dress up as she pleases and people are loving her for it!
What do you think of her?

Tavi is awesome. Out of interest why do you think Anna Wintour is a terrible person?

I probably should have mentioned that :) I think she is awful as she wears so much fur, including rare/exotic animals such as leopards and tigers. I think anyone with that much power and fashion credentials should look into the process of what they are wearing. To be fair she probably is aware of how cruel it is and so makes me dislike her more. X

Ah, that's a pretty valid reason! I had a feeling it would probably be the fur thing. It's a shame that so many high profile people in the fashion industry still continue to wear it.

I know, it's still surprises me! It's good that lots of designers are so against it now though :) x
