Wooden Toys

I am getting more and more behind with current posts on my blog, I still need to share with you pictures of our holiday and Wilf's six months pictures. Wilf turned six months whilst we were away in Devon and I didn't get round to taking the pictures until two days ago, and only managed to look through them last night. Whilst I did though I came across this one that made me smile, that boy will chew on everything (and anyone!) including his alligator. I didn't mean for this toy to be in the pictures but I needed something to distract him to stay fairly still for ten minutes. And actually now I look back on them I love that its in there, that's the beauty of wooden toys I think.

When I was heavily pregnant and adding the final touches to Wilf's 'one day' room the bit I was most excited about was putting all the wooden toys on the shelves. Sometimes I'll just go in there and rearrange them and look at them as they are so pretty. I'm not totally against plastic toys or anything but wooden do just have a certain charm about them.
Here are some wooden toys that are on my wish list from the woodentoyshop.co.uk

I am a little bit in love with the Rocking Horse
The Wooden Toyshop has a huge amount of reasonable priced wooden toys, there are even some classics on there that I remember from when I was little! The site is also organized into catagories such as 'early learning', 'art and creativity' etc which makes it really easy to navigate.  They also organize via brands, which means if you like the look of a certain toy you can check out what other products they have! (I found this useful when I fell in love with the Janod horse)

When I have children I plan for them to have a lot of wooden toys! There are some lovely shops on North Street which sell them. In the book 'Mythologies' by Roland Barthes, there is an essay which talks about toys, and how much nicer wooden toys are than plastic ones, as they retain heat and are far more tactile.

I love wooden toys for Wyatt- and he loves chewing on them! He has a few that he got in Citrus Lane boxes and they are his favorite!
