Tigerlilly Quinn: Cheeky Wipes

Cheeky Wipes

Since Wilf was about six weeks old we have used cloth nappies. I knew very little about cloth nappies when I was pregnant but as a neighbour was kind enough to lend us a bunch of her old newborn sized ones we thought we would give it a go. In actual fact we didn't get on well with these (probably because he was already too big for them) but by then we had got our heads around the idea of cloth nappies and bought some Bum Genius on recommendation from a friend which worked great. Since then we have tried a fair few different brands but I will go into that more in a latter post!

Although we have almost exclusively cloth nappied since then (we sometimes use a eco disposable for night time) I never thought of cloth wipes. In all honestly it was something I had never heard of or even thought was a possibility so when I heard of Cheeky Wipes I was very interested to give them a go. The kit contains two plastic containers one for 'clean' and one for 'mucky'. The kit also comes with two little bottles one bottle of Lavender & Chamomile ‘Fresh Baby Wipes’ essential oil blend and  one bottle of Tea Tree & Tea tree lemon ‘Mucky Baby Wipes’ essential oil blend. Both bottles smell really fresh and the essential oils are great for Wilf's skin.

As well as this you are given 25 super soft and colourful wipes, the idea being that you place them in the 'clean' container (filling it with water up to a certain point and adding the essential oil) and then place the used ones in the 'mucky' container also filled with water and the essential oil. Once the mucky container is full you transfer them to the wash bag provided and just chuck them in the washing machine when you are doing your cloth nappies. We tried these indoors at first to see how we got on before testing them out and about. The system is so incredibly simple that it feels no different to using the disposable wipes apart from they smell and feel a lot nicer (and are in fact a lot easier to use with a pooey bum than disposable wipes!) The next test them was to use them out and about, the kit contains two drawstring pouches marked 'clean' and 'mucky' in which to carry both the clean and dirty wipes around with you. I was apprehensive about this one, as cloth nappies already take up a lot more room in your bag than disposables I did think this might be yet another thing to lug around and take up space. However the bags take up about as much room as a packet of disposables would so this wasn't an issue. Once I got home I just remembered to add them to the wash bucket along with the nappy and it really was no further inconvenience.

Overall I am really impressed with this kit, it also makes me wonder why I never thought about it before as it really is very simple. I think if you are already using cloth nappies this is really no added bother and if you are not then perhaps it would need a week or so to get your head around (remembering to empty them from your bag..I forgot so much at the start with the cloth nappies..) but I honestly would recommend them to all.
In all honestly although the fact that they are great for the environment is brilliant my main reason for using cloth nappies and now cloth wipes in the money saving aspect. It is though that using cloth wipes will save you £200 a year in which case buying this full kit for £39.99 is a huge saving!

you can check out Cheeky Wipes products here

the wipes
the containers
the oils
and lastly the wash bag and bags for on the move
Cheeky Wipes were kind enough to send me their large kit to test but all thoughts are my own and I would tell you if I didn't like something about them. Thankfully though I love them and would highly recommend!

Yey, we picked some up from a nearly new sale for a few pounds, so glad I did as they are so handy and not just for bums! We use them after dinner and messy play time too.

Wish I knew (or did more research!) about these things before theo arrived, oh well at least we know for the next one right?!

I use cheeky wipes and love them, we have 2 sets, pink for bottom and white for face (so yes, they are great for the face, I think they'd work well for makeup). It's worthwhile investing in a second wash bag (the kit only has one) so while 1 is in the wash, the other can be put into the mucky box ready to go!

I found cheeky wipes when I was expecting my first baby- she is 5weeks old tomorrow and I have used them since we got home from hospital- once she stopped doing the nasty black poo's they are brilliant, soft on skin and leave my hands nice and soft. I also have a pink set and blue set which I alternate for bum and then a white bamboo set for body washes and face. Cheeky wipes are also a great company for customer service, all in all a great product- even my partner who assumed it would be something I would use once then find it too much agrees they are great :) if you use the promo code recommend then you get a £5 discount too :)

I've used cheeky wipes since my son was a few months old, I don't even bother with the 'used' box or bags anymore, just chuck them in the nappy bucket! They are great, work better than disposable wipes and I love them!

I can't believe you've gone for so long without them! I love mine and have used since the beginning with our nappies. I just use the clean box and throw the mucky ones into the nappy bin. when I bought mine they only did white but now I know they do colour ones I might replace the make shift muslin ones I use for after eating with those! I don't bother buying the cheeky wipes solution anymore either, not because it wasn't good just because it seems silly to order one tiny bottle! We just use a few drops lavender oil and that keeps everything smelling clean! They get much more purchase on bottoms than disposable wipes!!

@sarah I know I feel a bit foolish that I've waited this long to try them! Good tip about the lavender too :) x

don't know how i missed this before! when mine were in cloth nappies, i made my own 'wipe wash' - chamomile tea with a few drops lavender oil in. Mixed with some homemade fleece wipes and it saved us a fortune!
