Kiddie Food

I intended to write much more on here about kiddie food but I'm afraid I've lost my inspiration when it comes to Wilf's food. Like too many things I do I tend to go all out at first and then loose my drive..when Wilf first starting eating solid food I made so many things from The River Cottage Baby and Toddler book. Wilf was gobbling down with gusto (and much to my mum's amazement 'wow he really eats!') fritata's, quiche's, pasties, home made pesto, hummus and even pumpkin cake..and now? Now its more like crackers and pasta and rice cakes..with a bit of fruit & veg here and there..I need to step it up, I'm bored and I'm sure Wilf is bored.
I think I need a weekend where I can make a bunch of things, a big pasta sauce, a bunch of mini pasties..home made veggie burgers (like these by my friend Sarah). That's the plan anyway.
When I didn't have a child I used to really hate pictures of children eating, you know the ones that jump up on your Facebook feed 'so and so eating yogurt!' and its smeared all over their face. Ya well now I have a child I change my mind, its SO cute..however I totally get it if you don't agree, if you are that person..look away now
Anyone got any ideas for me to get me kiddie food mojo back?

TIME. If i don't have any Stanley gets fish fingers and baked beans, which he loves but I feel bad giving him to him. Batches are the way forward for sure. Our freezer is full of veggie burgers, the inevitable pasta sauce, bolognese, fish pies, veggie shepherds pies etc. I reckon he eats well and a good mix of food, things are never as bad as YOU think they are. But hey, I'm a fine one to talk....

I felt exactly the same, I even made batches but felt bad giving silas defrosted meals do often. We now eat all together, he eats what we eat (most of the time!) it's made me way more adventurous and to my surprise silas actually enjoys more things than I expected. I find it much easier doing family meals than cooking separate batches for silas. Lunch however I still struggle with. I'm bored of lunch and so is he!

I found cooking for my kids insanely boring as they both had faves and wouldnt budge from them - fish fingers - shepherds pie - chicken and pasta rotated, apples and bananas for pudding but as Freya is a complete food hound Im making more toddler meals lately your pics look scrummy!!

On good days (when Herbie has slept for more than 3 hours) I will happily cook lunch and dinner and we eat together. I love cooking and he eats what I eat on these occasions, so for me it is a pleasure. On bad days when I have had no sleep and have no energy we resort to pouches, toast, fruit - easy stuff. From reading your blog, I know that many of your nights have broken sleep, as do mine, so I think you should give yourself a break and not beat yourself up about it. When you are tired, a full time mum and working creatively, something has to give. Wilf looks like a very happy, well loved and thriving little boy - you are obviously doing something right!!!! much love.

I don't think there's too much to worry about, especially as he's not over one yet, and is still nursing...food before one is just for fun! Is something I was told and really helped me stay sane with the whole food and blw thing. He seems like he really enjoys food, and from the pictures above he looks like he has lots of fun things to try.

I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself by trying to create amazing meals for each and every meal for him, just try and encourage him to eat what you eat and keep it simple. They all go through phases of having favourites and only eating certain foods, mainly beige! And one week they'll love something and you think you've cracked it, the next they'll turn their nose up at it. It's ongoing and tough, but sometimes you just have to try and not worry about it too much!

@lil aww thankyou, yes I can imagine it gets boring cooking the same thing over and over, Wilf seems to change his preferences daily to keep me on my toes! x
