BubbaHub

This post is a long while coming. I meant to blog about it when BubbaHub opened but I had forgotten to take pictures, I then meant to go back for a coffee with Wilf and well life just kept me busy and I never got round to it. It is a wonderful space and I know if it was a little closer to my side of town and would gladly while away a morning there regularly.

Alison the owner was my NCT teacher when I was pregnant with Wilf. She also runs a homebirth group, both of which were a tremendous help to me during my pregnancy. She continued to be a great support in the few weeks after Wilf arrived in the world (I mentioned a little of that here).

Around June time Alison contacted me and asked if I would be willing to illustrate her a logo for her new venture as well as illustrating elements in the space, including the front window. I have to admit to feeling a little daunted about live illustrating such a big area but it was really fun to do! I also painted some of the scenes elements (the birds) in the bathroom. I left that day wanting to draw all over our windows at home (but I doubt Tom would have been very pleased).

I returned last week to redo the window (in permanent pen this time whoops!) and managed to finally take some pictures.

Wilf, (after telling people recently that I cannot do any illustration due to Wilf needing my attention all the time) played happily for two hours without bothering me! Bubbahub is closed on a Monday so he had the whole space and all the toys to himself and was in his element. Perhaps the trick will be to just move myself and all my paraphernalia to Bubbahub to get on with my artwork?? Alison supplied me with tea and fancy biscuits and left me to it, I really enjoyed just getting lost in drawing again..

I thought I would show you some roughs and the processes of creating this custom illustration in case it may be of any interest.

Here are two of the first little drafts I came up with, I was asked to include elements that could be used throughout the website which is why I chose the birds in her hair. I also wanted to include some of my trademark woodland creatures!
and here is the final image on the website

If you are Bristol based and have a little Bubba I would recommend you give BubbaHub a visit! Check out their Facebook here (give it a 'like' if your feeling inclined!).
