We like to read

The Paper Bag Princess - By Robert N. Munsch

A book about a princess that certainly does not need saving by a Prince (even if he is dressed in the best seventies tennis outfit I ever did see). I remember going back to this book again and again as a child, feeling inspired by a feisty princess who knew what she wanted and needed no saving.

Anyone else humming 'Independent Women'? c'mon 'all the women who are independent, throw your hands up at meeee' because I TOTALLY pull off trying to be Beyonce ;)

I have this! I found it on a list of feminist children's books and bought it right away. I hadn't realised it was so old! X

this sounds good - refreshing to see a different depiction of princesses :D

it's great isn't it! I love the illustrations and it really reminds me of reading it as a child thinking 'yer! I want to be her!!' x

We've got this in my attempt to fight the princess obsession in this house! Have linked up again with another of our faves.

I love this one! I remember it being read to me when I was in infant school and now I always read it when I've got a new group of children. It's lovely to be able to share a big you really like with children that isn't one that is so well known. It has a brilliant ending too! x
