Our week in pictures, a trip to Manchester

A mentioned a last month how I had been to visit some on my little Sister's uni choices with her. Last week we went to visit Manchester and my parents and younger brother met us up there too.

It's been quite nice to have an excuse to visit different places I might never had gone to before (even if they are only flying visits). We stayed in the Manchester Youth Hostel which was right by the canal and perfect for feeding geese!

Wilf is still little enough to need a nap in the day so it's either we are out for the full day and try and get him to nap in his stroller (which usually ends up with only fifteen minutes or so and a fairly grumpy boy there after) or we make sure he is home for one. I'm thankful that we decided to do this on at least one of our days out last week, sometimes I need the quiet time too!

Because of this we spent out morning at the train museum just round the corner from the youth hostel. It was perfect for Wilf and he ran around wildly for a few hours, shouting for 'gumpy' (as he now calls my dad) to see this and that, they even rode a carousel!

I think the trouble with family living so far away is that when you do see them you have to try and cram  so much into a day or two. We did try and head out again to meet up with my sister at the uni and visit another museum close by but really it was too much for one day (que an meltdown about wanting a snack, not having any on me and being half an hour away from anywhere where we could obtain snacks). It will have to wait for another day :)

Did Wilf like the Victorian fairground? We were meant to go with friends last Tuesday but Ebony was poorly. I need to make sure I take her before it ends. Ebony loves MOSI, it's a good place to kill a rainy afternoon :) hope you enjoyed the North x

I've not been to Manchester. You've tempted me. It's so great that you're all exploring the UK like this. When I was choosing universities, I had no choice but to go by the websites, being on the other side of the globe! But uni can be such a life-changing time so it's fab that she can really check it out.

Such cute photos of Wilf! I have that problem with family living far away, I'm planning a trip up to the Midlands to see my dad, brother and sister at the end of the month but it's going to be hard work to fit everything in over a weekend xx

Traveling is definitely different when you have kids. We took a trip this past weekend to a beautiful conservatory and outdoor gardens. The little babe slept on the way for an hour, but then was up until 3:30pm, when she promptly crashed on the way home. She was a trooper though, wanting to walk on her own - the first time outside! It is not the same relaxing trip that my husband and I had pre-baby, strolling through the gardens holding hands and have a relaxing lunch, but it was great in a new way. Pictures here if you're interested.

Wow looks like you had an amazing time in Manchester with the family - love Wilf - he is too cute - what a busy past few weeks you have had - your little man will be well versed in train travel that is for sure :)

Lovely colourful photos! How do you find youth hostels with Wilf, are they quite toddler friendly these days? Been a while since I've used one, I worked at a great one near Glasgow about 15 years ago. Manchester is do-able in a day from my mum, but it would be nicer to be more relaxed about things and stay over, on a budget though!

Really good! Wilf and I had a family room for 3 which included a bunk bed (the bottom bunk was a double) we just co-slept in the bottom. It had an on-suit also. The only problem with YH is no kettle in your room so you have to go to the kitchen to make tea (unless you have someone to bring you one!) x

I think you picked really well considering you couldn't visit! I never had this experience as I chose my uni purely because I didn't want to break up with my boyfriend! x

ah no way! we were there on Weds, I totally forgot you were so close but we were really only there for one day, I'd love to visit again though. x
