Wilf loves drawing, he has been 'mark making' from as long as he was old enough to hold a crayon in his chubby little baby hands. There was a time when he realised that he loved delegating even more than he loved drawing and Tom and I were forced to draw endless cats for him on his demand, 'more cats! more cats!'.
A couple of months back he drew this, I'm sure it was just a massive fluke but to me that looks like a face right? With a crown on top? So I snapped it on my phone to record the time my just gone two year old drew a princess…although when pressed he said it was sheep sooo..
I love this picture the most so far of all of Wilf's creations as it's the first one that actually looks like something, be as it may that might just be my interpretation! Whilst most drawings at Wilf's age are mostly 'mark making' I think it's a real moment when you find one with a recognisable 'picture' and that's why I chose this one that matters the most to me.
I think it's brilliant that the theme of this competition is illustration. Art has played such a massive part in my life for as long as I can remember and I love doing creative things with Wilf (even if our crafting sessions pretty much consist of him gluing everything on top of each other and painting over it).
John Lewis have just launched their 'what matters most' competition. All you need to do is take a picture of a drawing of your child's favourite thing and submit it here (along with their name, age and your contact details). The four lucky winners of the competition will get their child's drawing recreated by the artist Emily Woodard.
The competition closes at 10am on the 24th of April.

that is a great idea! my kids love to draw!
What a lovely idea! And that picture by Wilf is brilliant - fluke or not - it's one to frame! x
What a great competition! I love my kids' drawings, they're dotted around the house as I'm sure they're future masterpieces ;)
That sounds like a lovely competition. We all love drawing too. My daughter sketches her beloved guinea pig a lot, might enter one of her drawings!
Love this picture. It is the perfect competition for parents
This is such a lovely competition! What a great idea for parents.
Good luck hun, I wish Baby was old enough to try to draw and not just eat the crayon :) xx
What a great competition xx
what a fab competition! off for a look!
I can remember the first time Cherry drew a face, such a proud moment! I love watching her draw now, it's one of my favourite things x
It is great when they start drawing things that actually look like something isn't it. I think his drawing is fab!
This is a lovely idea for a competition!
It is definitely a face :-) lovely competition too x
Wow, this is quite amazing for any child, let alone a 2 year old! It's incredibly artistic :)
That is awesome, well done Wilf! I'm so excited for you as I remember I was when POD drew a head for the first time albeit without ears. Great competition too :)
This is so cool, Wilf has certainly got some artistic skills :) I love looking at F's drawings and listening to his descriptions. Great comp! x
Wow I really love this drawing and I think it looks like you, with a crown on it, it's so beautiful even if it was not that intentional - I love it :)
Laura x
They are so cute <3 a lot easier to make as well then I thought they might have been x
I love this drawing! Theo was definitely not drawing anything recognisable at two. We definitely went through the "you draw it" stage, and now he's just obsessed with writing his name!

Oh my goodness these are so sweet!!! Sounds easier than I had thought too x
Lovely! My niece is so into drawing at 15 months, and has been for a couple of months now, and I love seeing her have more and more purpose at such a young age! I'm really nurturing that side of her, as that is exactly what I was like! The artistic gene did not get passed onto my son lol x
