Tigerlilly Quinn: Simple afternoons

Simple afternoons

Wilf recently stopped napping, it's been about a week now and each day seems a little tougher. He's in a place where he is still really tired but not enough to sleep in the day. It hasn't really changed how well he sleeps at night but the days seem super long! I'm not too proud to tell you that the other day was a real struggle and we fell out a few times ;)

I'm trying to keep our days simple, a mistake I was making was planning things for the afternoon and he was just too tired for it (big mistake going out without the pushchair too!). Instead we've been keeping close to home, doing some chores and playing together.

I  recently discovered COS clothing and their children range in particular, they were kind enough to offer Wilf some items from their collection and I'm really impressed with them. They are such simple classic pieces. Whats also interesting about them is that from 2 the sizes go up every two years so for example from 2-4. Initially I thought that would make them look oversized but I love that they actually do fit a child within these ages but just in a different way (although I did have to roll up his trousers).

My favourite piece is definitely the towelling stripe jumper , Wilf keep stroking it too and telling me he's wearing a towel, ha! The quality is brilliant and you know they will last years and years.

We were also sent these HAY wooden blocks which I thought was a lovely touch and really fitted with the ethos of clean simple design. I keep trying to place them on our mantle piece as they are so pretty but Wilf of course just wants to knock them down again and again. Simple pleasures, simple clothing and simple afternoons.

Wilf is wearing:

Raw-cut sweatshirt, towelling stripe jumper, shirt with ribbed cuffs and slim cotton trousers his moccasins are from Amy and Ivor

We were sent these items for purposes of this post but all words and thoughts are my own

He does look wonderfully comfy in those clothes, and I love the idea of such broad size ranges - anything that can keep clothes lasting just that little bit longer through the crazy growth spurts has got to be a good thing!

I love the short blue dress. It's understated but glamorous.

I find broad size ranges a real pain TBH. I think that Wilf looks great, but I am not a fan of turn ups. I found that the boys tended to scuff the bottom of their trousers if that made sense. I love the toweling top and the grandad collar shirt too. He is so cute

Love smoothies but hate washing smoothie maker afterwards :D

Great clothes and he looks like a bundle of fun! The towelling stripe jumper sounds cosy.

Awww why would you want him to sleep anyway. Play sounds good to me too. Plenty of time for planning and serious stuff later on. He wears the clothes well.

Oh I am not looking forward to the time when Baby stops napping, she currently wakes up at 5-5.30am and doesn't stop until 6pm bedtime, so I wouldn't cope without the nap break. I hope he starts to get used to it and things get easier. She is too cute xx

Ahhh how did I not know that COS do kids' clothing? I am so checking them out now. Love their womenswear...

He's really growing up! Lovely photos as usual :) I remember the loss of daytime naps... thankfully rarely before preschool started!

Jess@AlongCameCherry said...

That napy adjustment period is tough! Cherry was only one when she stopped napping so it was so hard to try and get though the day. Even Tiger doesn't nap sometimes, neither of them have been big on sleeping in the day unfortunately! x

Louisa said...

My youngest dropped her daytime nap early on and oh, how I miss it. She doesn't seem to realise that I'd quite like 40 winks myself ;-)

Gill Crawshaw said...

I had no idea COS did children's clothes! Are they similar to Zara? Nap dropping is tough, I really sympathise. We've been having some difficult times too - so hard to get the sleep balance right x

My son is three and is still in two year old clothing and I wish clothing still came in half sizes. I think I'd need to see the clothes first to be believe the sizing.

He looks so dapper in his shirt!!

Tell Wilf that mummy has a friend who is 29 and still hasn't given up her nap... I don't think I ever will ;) x

Oh gorgeous pictures!! :) I love his top in the last picture! xx

petitmoi-bigworld said...

I miss napping, not for him but for me!!

Those photos are just gorgeous, though, I struggle to get photos of my son, as he gets older, getting him to stay still is a nightmare. Those are beautiful, though, and they show just how much fun he's having :)

That wallpaper is AMAZING!

I remember the day's when all of a sudden my son stopped napping, it was like starting a whole new routine for the both of us again as when he would nap, I would catch up with house work and try to get as much course work done as possible. When his naps did come to an end, he had not long turned three and was a exploring little toddler, so the house work would be left until he was in bed, and before I knew it, the housework seemed like it was three times as much as it use to be, and the quality of course work I was producing was also taking an effect.

Hopefully in due time you'll be able to find a new routine that work's for the both of you!

Also love the clothes, the little buttoned shirt is my personal favourite on your gorgeous boy! I too think it was lovely of the company to send the blocks too, I love it when PR's go that extra little mile! x

I often think that the simple afternoons are actually the best kind. x

Oooh! Populaire looks good! We have just ditched our Sky subscription and have signed up for NowTV instead. No live telly, only catch up and box sets/movies etc. It's so much nicer!

Kara said...

I am dreading the "dropping of the daytime naps" - hopefully its a long way off for me

Sarah @ DaydreamsofSummertime said...

I LOVE Populaire. The French really know how to make a good romcom!

This looks great! There's so much brilliant stuff on Netflix, especially all the documentaries / films (and kid's TV, of course) x

Polly Davies said...

We haven't had 'normal' TV for 6 years - best decision we ever made! Netflix is fab, great stuff for all of us to watch {and no adverts!!}

Hope things settle down and you don't continue to fall out! I guess kids get bored after a while and when they're tired they become ratty. Good luck x

Great photos and I love that shirt and the jumper. My youngest is still napping but last night was up until 11.30pm. I guess we should stop his nap now but I love the break it gives us all...it's only a matter of time though (eeek!!) x

Vaichin@RamblingThroughParenth said...

They all look delicious. And super healthy too. Perfect for the summer.

laura redburn said...

ooh, you just reminded me i want to watch that film!

Claire said...

They look great. I love how with netflix you only watch when you truly want to watch something, rather than have drivel on all the time. x

He looks gorgeous Fritha! And so grown up.

Empathise with the difficult afternoons.

Cherry went through a period of trying to drop her nap but I felt she wasn't ready so we have readjusted our day and I have found an earlier nap, say 12-2, then a slightly later bedtime of around 8pm rather than the 7pm I was insisting upon, is the optimal solution. Not always possible and some days she doesn't nap, other days she naps longer/later and is up til late, but I feel quite free and easy about that sort of thing anyway and am much less rigid about nap/bedtime than I used to be.

ANYWAY after that long ramble, Cherry has always been prone to wildness when tired, and I have found the best thing to do is to find some form of really exuberant physical activity for her. Soft play is ideal but not always convenient.

A friend recently suggested a trampoline, she has one and says it's a godsend for those tired-but-wired afternoons! We tried it at her house the other day and Cherry LOVED it, she absolutely loves to bounce (usually all over our bed!) So she's getting a trampoline for her 3rd birthday two days after lovely Wilf's! xx

We're at that point with my three year old. Unless we've had a really busy day he tends to not need a nap, but by 5pm is exhausted. I thik when he starts nursery ins eptember he will be back to having an afternoon nap for a bit

Looking forward to hearing your recommendations - we are addicted to Netflix and never watch 'normal telly' anymore. Except Bake Off of course....

Elif said...

Thanks for this movie recommendation! Will definitely check it out :)

Its not easy when they drop that nap, but it will get better soon. I love the clothes, will be popping over to have a look.

I LOVED this film. I really like french rom coms too. Of course Amelie will always be my all time fave. I sometimes think about giving up TV and switching to Netflix as we prefer watching films/box sets too.

Joanna Imran said...

I love his clothes! And the photos are so gorgeous. I'm dreading the moment A. decides to drop his daytime napping, sometimes he just refuses to sleep at his usual time and gets really grumpy, that's enough for me ;)

Wild & Grizzly said...

I love these pics of wilf and the collarless shirt. So cute! It does feel super long when they first stop napping doesn't it. X

Jess@AlongCameCherry said...

We've actually just gone the opposite way and had Sky installed, I have to say I LOVE it! Being able to record my favourite programmes and watch them when I want is awesome, I have started watching a few terrible shows though like Teen Mom 2! The main reason I love it though is because it keeps Matt entertained in the evenings with all the car shows while I get to go on the laptop. The plan was to get rid of Netflix as they have tv box sets as part of the package but they don't have my absolute favourite show ever and I can't give up watching it so have to keep both. I'm sure you can work out the show I'm talking about ;) x

Laura Rocksteady said...

Oh seriously how cute does he look in all his COS clothing - such a stylish little dude - my little man would never let me do so many outfit changes!! He is a bit of a stick in the mud with things like that. I love his slippers as well btw - I bet they are super comfy - wish they made them in adult sizes!

I love making soup in the winter, but am always put off by how long it takes - the Vitamix sounds perfect! Love those photos as well, so colourful!

Love the black dress - anything with embroidery on it is a winner for me at the moment!

Helen said...

My daughter still has a nap every few days - especially if she is going through a growing spurt! I know she will be tired once she starts school full time in September :(

Laura Rocksteady said...

I have been meaning to watch this film ever since it came out - looks so colourful and quirky. We are off to France next month so I think I am going to have to get this via netflix to inspire us before our trip :)

He looks so cute in all these photos! We've had a few more home days than usual in this holidays- some days they just need an easy rest day, don't they? But it also makes me feel guilty somehow? Love the clothes! I'll have to check out theit girls stuff for Izzy (oh just did and there are so many lovely pieces!). Love the blocks too! :-) x

Jenni said...

Totally going to put this on this very minute! Hopefully we'll enjoy it :)

abigail said...

Oh cos! They are always on my list for children's clothes, but they are just a little over budget for us, doesn't stop me lusting and the sale is always pretty good!

fritha strickland said...

A trampoline is such a good idea! Wilf's friend has one too and they spend the whole afternoon in there in the garden. Annoyingly our garden is pretty tiny and we couldn't really have one in the house. I do think he actually still needs one thought so I think we will just play it by ear on each day xx

fritha strickland said...

there are SO many nice pieces for girls in their range, I'm almost relieved I don't have a girl or I would go a bit mad on there! x

fritha strickland said...

well...there was a bit of coaxing and bear treats were involved if I'm honest! x

fritha strickland said...

it's tricky isn't it! Actually since writing this post he's had a few more days of napping so we are just playing it by ear and feeling grateful for the days he does! I agree, such a lovely gift of the blocks too :) x

fritha strickland said...

thank you! x

fritha strickland said...

it's by Ferm Living, a bit of a treat but we only needed one roll! x

fritha strickland said...

OMG Jess I don't know how you coped, especially when pregnant! x

fritha strickland said...

I think they are similar to Zara but feel a bit more luxurious, I had no idea they did them either. I think COS are owned by H&M actually! x

fritha strickland said...

I think it might be a new thing for them, the little girls stuff is amazing! x

fritha strickland said...

no it's true! May be part of the reason I'm feeling a bit broody! x
