Room Tour - Bathroom

I was recently asked to tidy up my bathroom..and not even from my family this time (although bathrooms are Tom's territory usually). I have mentioned many many times before on this blog that cleaning and tidying is just not one of those things that come naturally to me or Tom. I would love to be one of those people who couldn't relax until the carpet was hoovered, I really would. Alas I am not.at.all.

For the most part the only time our home gets a good tidy is when people are going to see it. Any if I need to take pictures for the blog, in fact having a blog is probably one of the main incentives of ever having a semi-clean living room. Remember when I had to tidy our bedroom? It took about four days!

So Viakal challenged me to try and make my bathroom a bit of a nicer place to be. There isn't any helping our shower I'm afraid it's just so old and rubbish the only thing to do is to wait until we have the pennies to replace it (it only has one heating setting now, basically you turn it as high as it can go and hope it stays warm for a few minutes).

I could try and clean up a bit and make it a bit calmer though, so that's what I did. I found so many odd things in our bathroom shelves including about 5 different necklaces I though I'd lost and some blackboard paint.

Cleaning in my jammers, naturally.

I'm never going to be one of those people who have a white bathroom and clear shelves. I love colour and I love 'things' but I did mange to sort it all about a bit better and remove about two bags full of things that didn't belong in there.

There's nothing worse than taking a bath in a room that isn't all that clean though so it's certainly inspired me to give things a wipe everyday. Tom and I have lived together long enough to have our pet hates on each other, mine is him leaving toothpaste in the sink (he's got so much better at this) his is that I leave cupboard doors open everywhere I go (I just forget to close them after I've taken something out, weird!).

We tend to leave rooms in our house to get to a point where we need to 'deep clean' or spend a whole weekend tidying and I hate that. Such a waste of time, I really want us to be able to do bits each day to be able to keep on top of it all.

I have to admit since sorting and cleaning it all I've been much more inclined to spend time in there and with the weather changing I've been taking long baths in the evening and lighting candle's bliss!

Thanks for making me clean my bathroom Viakal ;)

Viakal's products help clean limescale around places like sinks and showers. This post was written in collaboration with Viakal.

You know what drives me mad about our bathroom? Greig just seems to shed hair all over the place. Honestly it's like having a dog/cat that's permanently molting! I get a bit anal about rinsing it off the bath or hoovering the floor. I'm really lax about the rest of the house but I like a nice clean (hair-free) bathroom :)

those pjs!!! my bathroom is teeeny and has an ancient shower :/ Decorating it soon, and putting down a new floor - you've inspired me to give it a good clean and declutter first!

Very interesting to see your bathroom! It's a part of blogger's houses that you never really see. Mine is tiny and there isn't actually any room for any things in there, apart from the odd mouldy cup of tea that left in there for a few days ;) x

Cleaning is not my most favourite thing either. There always seems to be much more important things to do. Love the pjs... :-)

Had to laugh at the lost necklaces bit, know what you mean there! Shelves can hold so much, can't they! I don't clean often enough but it does give me some small satisfaction when I do :)

I love cleaning, I find it relaxing but I do it better if I am really stressed out, it sort of helps to de-stress x

Your house is so light and airy. I love ours but it's very dark - too dark. I'm pretty OCD about keeping it clean though !

We have no working boiler and therefore no hot water at the moment and the shower hasn't worked in years so the bathroom is hardly used at the moment! I do seem to be the only person who cleans in the house. The others are just mess makers!

your bathroom looks so light! haha, i think the bathroom is the place most people hate to clean. we only have one little shelf in there and a medicine cabinet, so luckily it rarely gets cluttered!

I love those soaps!! Your bathroom looks so cosy...I have to say cleaning my bathroom is one of my least favourite jobs so I'm very impressed!!

I hate cleaning bathroom but when I do it's such a pleasure to take a long bath with lots of candles :)

Loved looking around your bathroom. I'm never going to be all minimalistic. I'm all about colour too. I hate cleaning but cannot stand a dirty bathroom so it's the only part of the house I clean regularly.

Vaichin@RamblingThroughParenth said...

Your bathroom looks lovely. Those soap bars and the candelabra are gorgeous.

I love the colour in your bathroom - we only have a window in the roof and I miss having a windowsill full of pretty nicknacks :)

I want those moomin jammies!! Love the bathroom too but they rock!

I love your bathroom , it looks so cozy! I like to use green cleaners. The safest way to clean your bathroom is to know every ingredient you are using. When I use commercial cleaners to clean my bathroom, I have to step out and take breaks because the fumes make me feel dizzy and awful
