When family came to stay

One of the great things about having a wedding was that it meant my family could visit. I haven't seen my big brother and his family in over two years as they live in Orkney and before that they lived in Durham. I used to grumble that the north east might as well be a different country due to it's distance from Bristol until they moved to tiny island off the coast of Scotland!

The worst part is it's actually fairly painless getting to the coast of Scotland but actually getting to the island by air costs hundreds. Therefore we haven't seen each other in actual years, which is even sadder as we have kids only 7 months apart.

Thankfully they were able to take a few days off and booked this Airbnb place in Clifton to spend the duration of their stay in. Tom and I stayed in an Airbnb place when we went to Paris and I think they are brilliant for getting a real idea of what a place is like. As someone who loves good interior design I love that you can pick places to stay that are so aesthetically pleasing. This flat was furnished with brilliant Scandi chic items such as Eames reproduction chairs and sixties style lighting.

Whats brilliant about staying in a place like this is that it feels like coming home whilst you are away. You can cook your own dinner and make leisurely breakfasts that don't need to be eaten between 8-10am (or that can be eaten without having to make sure your toddler sits and stays in his chair the whole time!).

On that note when you are staying away with a little one it's so nice to have more than one room to hang out in. When we were staying in Paris we actually booked a place with a child's room that was full of toys. This flat had one bedroom which meant my brother and SIL could put their toddler to sleep and then go watch a movie in the living room without waking her.

This flat in Clifton is perfect for a stay in Bristol as it's located five minutes walk from Clifton village and short walk from Park Street and the centre. It also has a bus stop directly outside of the flat which will take you all the way to Temple Meads Station. It was nice for us to spend sometime on the fancy part of our city too! ;)

My family received a discounted rate with Airbnb but all words and thoughts are my own and I really do rate them

These places look great. So pleased you could see your family. I would love to visit Orkney-have wanted to since that bloke from there was on Big Brother years ago! Haha! x

Nice post. I love that you as well as your brother and his family liked Airbnb. Glad that you were finally able to see each other again.

It's so nice when you get to see family you haven't seen in a while - it's like you've never been apart isn't it x

What a small world, I was born in Orkney and lived there until I was 9. And yes, it is very expensive to get to, even when you already live in Scotland. We would really like to take Bagl up in the next few years especially as his real name has an Orkney connection but need to save for it. Glad your family made it down, I think Airbnb is a fabulous idea.

I have read a lot about airbnb places. They really seem to have taken off. I don't think there are any round where I live for my parents to stay.

I love Bristol and visit often. I must check out Clifton though as I have never been there. I must try out Airbnb too, as I have heard it's brilliant.

What a great idea for a way to stay away from home - it really must feel more homely. x

Oh what a lovely airbnb flat - I have to say when travelling with kids it's a great option - we loved the one we had in Paris and also did one in London which was the perfect location - only problem there was no dry bedding when we arrived ( and no way of drying it) but otherwise I also love them. Oh and your families jumpers are amazing
