Stepping into the adventure - My Christmas in pictures

When it comes to Christmas, since becoming a parent it's all about creating special moments. Ones that Wilf can look back on and cherish as well as of course enjoying in the moment. It's the time of year that has everyone reminiscing and thinking about their own childhood Christmases and the magic that came with them. Seeing life through my son's eyes reminds me about how much of an adventure these times are.

I'm sure I'm not the only one getting excited about those yearly traditions, picking out a tree, making Christmas cards and snuggling under the blanket watching your favourite Christmas movies. When you are little these things are even more wonderful and I love that we are able to create these magical adventures for him, little things, but big moments in life.

Although Wilf was aware of the concept last year I really think that this year as he turns three he has really got into the idea. We have been talking about 'Santa Christmas' and even having conversations about how modern day Santa gets into homes with no chimneys (I resorted to..umm magic!').

The other weekend we decided to tick off some of those special Christmas moments.

First up, ice skating! This was the first time we had taken Wilf and if i'm honest..we only lasted about a minute. He wasn't hugely keen and asked to go once we'd gone round once but at least we tried ;) maybe one for next year but I had fun!

Hitting the Christmas market food stalls, oh my gosh was that crepe delicious. I'm not sure you could find a picture of me looking any happier if I'm honest.

It takes a lot of self restraint not to go try something from each stall I'm telling you. Oh well at least it gives us the excuse to visit lots of times, I need to try something from this chocolate stand!

Picking out Christmas trees! This is something I remember so distinctively from my childhood all the discussions about which type of tree is better, taller or shorter? I think we can all agree that the bushiest is the best. Then comes of course the all important decorating it!

I think Christmas jumpers should be added to that list too actually. I LOVE getting us all our yearly Christmas jumpers, I only wish it was appropriate to wear them for longer than the month of December.

Christmas isn't really Christmas without your favourite movies even if you have watched Frozen a million times (you know what guys I'm OK with that, it's Tom and Wilf that have to stop me from singing along).

And making Frozen themed Christmas cards! We used the Sky Movies card maker and it was so much fun for Wilf to see his little face pop up next to Elsa's on the screen. It was a toss up between the Frozen theme and the Lego Movie theme but luckily you can send any amount so I'm sure we will be sending lots more over the next week or so. Wilf chose to send one to daddy at work and one to his granny who we will be seeing this year. I'm not sure how up-to-date she is with Frozen yet but by the end of the stay I'm sure she will be! I'm totally going to be sending the muppet themed ones for myself ;)

What are your Christmas traditions? What really gets you in the holiday mood?

I like the idea of the penguin skate aid better than the seal ones we had when we went last week. Our ones had seats on - great for really small children, but rubbish for trying to persuade my nearly 4 year old to give actual skating a go.

Great photos.

I'm all for the Christmas jumpers too...this is our first day wearing them this year and I love it! And getting the Christmas tree up and all decorating it is always lots of fun too.

We are looking forward to getting up our tree up this weekend, and going for our traditional visit to our local garden centre who have beautiful displays of every possible kind of Xmas decoration - the kids are allowed to choose one new tree dec each every year, and no doubt I will get one for myself too!

Choosing and decorating the tree feels like the start of Christmas for us - we did it on Sunday. My kids tell me (and I agree) that the best thing about Christmas is having all of the extended family together on Christmas day - we'll be 17 this year.

We don't really have any Christmas traditions as a family, sad I know. We usually start putting out tree up the week before Christmas and throwing ourselves into it late - hopefully this year we'll start making some traditions! x
