As many of you may know Tom and I are fortunate enough to own our home. It's been very much a 'fixer-upper' and although there have been many times I've wished we had moved into a place that didn't need quite so much love, it's also been very rewarding to see how far we have come.
In the early weeks of buying our house we had to re-level the floors and as we were working with a very limited budget we could only pay for bits and bobs as and when we could. There was a point when our living room consisted of a concrete floor, a plastic chair, a desk chair and a portable TV on a box. It was also a strange time as Tom and I had only been together for 18months and it felt like quite a big commitment for our age (I was 24). That being said we were already very committed to our life and future together and it was exiting to be planning a home that we would one day raise a family in.
One of the challenges about having a limited budget and a house to do up is that you have to be quite inventive. As such, lots of our rooms home special memories, where friends have mucked in to re-do our kitchen or paint walls and the vintage furniture we gave new life to. It's really quite special to walk around our house and realise we've made it become a home.
I love thinking about the stories house can tell, the events that happen in them the people that grow up in them. This will always be the house that my son was born in which is a pretty emotional thing to think about.

It's our dream to own our own narrowboat. It's so difficult to find the finance though :( We lived on a barge a year ago and it's weird having to get rid of so much stuff, but it's funny how quickly it creeps back into your life again! Your house is beautiful <3 x
I think we should all be more honest about our spaces - it makes great reading and viewing!
Ooh I've not seen this series but living on a barge is quite a cool way to look at home owning. Paul really wants to get a house of our own this year so that will be interesting to see if we can achieve it! Love that you guys have done so much to your home x
I would love to own my house, I live in a dingy rented flat and I can't wait to get out! www.abeautifulmess.com has the most PERFECT DIY things you can do around the house, all quite easy but the results are stunning and they're all cheap :)

I love knowing the stories to houses too. In the pub the other night a friend was telling me how she used to play in my current house when she was a child. It was strange to think of other's living here before us. I smile when I drive past the house where my mum was born. So lovely to tell Wilf he was born there. :-) x
I love this apron, it's so true!
