While we are in the winter months and the weather is often so cold or wet we have found we are trying to mix up the things we do as a family. Whilst we still attempt raincoat clad trips to the park it's not really all the same when you are constantly wiping down wet slides or stomping in soggy sandpits’. Of course we still go because there are puddles to be jumped in and as long as this mama has a coffee in hand I can just about cope with wet park, however when it's the weekend we do try and make a little more of our time together.
You may have noticed by now that our life together and this blog really is about making the most of the things we are passionate about. For us these are things in life that mean so much, our days together and how they are so special to us. With this in mind we worked with Lloyds Bank for this post to celebrate the things that help us get more out of life.
Since becoming parents we've come to appreciate just how important the weekend and quality time as a family is. It's funny how having a child can make you just that little bit more excited about your day because you get to see things through their eyes. Wilf will make the most wonderful observations about our days together, he will notice things that we no longer notice and seeing him enjoy himself is just the best feeling. Often Tom and I will get into bed at the end of our day and just chat about all the things Wilf did or said or enjoyed, it's the best feeling!
The other day when the weather forecast promised drizzle all day long we decided to take a trip to our local cinema. I've never taken Wilf to the movies before but around 6 months ago Tom took him to a child's showing of Happy Feet at our local arts centre. He didn't actually last the whole film and suggested half way through that they leave. That being the case I wasn't sure how successful our outing would be this time round, especially as this was a real cinema experience and not just a projector in a room.
(we treated Wilf to a bag of pick and mix, the chocolate raisins seemed like the healthiest of options available..maybe? Wilf now calls this 'pickle mix')
It turns out we needn't have worried as he loved it! We chose to go see The Box Trolls which I remembered a friend had taken her 3 year old to recently. I didn't know anything about the film prior to watching it and I didn't even think to look into it too much. I actually spent the first ten minutes wondering if I'd made a big misjudgement as it was pretty frightening (for me, those teeth!) but luckily Wilf declared they were 'funny' and we made it all the way to the end (phew!).
(a sneaky shot inside the cinema!)
Kind of the perfect day all in all! What are your go-to's on a rainy weekend? I'd love to hear them!

Pickle mix is so cute! I don't think you can beat the cinema on a miserable day to be honest, but we also like going bowling or to a museum and when the kids were little we loved stomping in the puddles with wellies on!
I often take my children to our local cinema, they offer a kids club on a weekend with tickets costing just £1.49 each. A great way to get out of the rain and relax for a hour or so.
I can't wait till Tiger is a bit older and we can all go to the cinema together, it's such a good activity for rainy days xx
We love spending time together and making the most of what we have. I am taking the boys to the cinema next week during half term.
We really enjoy going to the cinema and we make this a half term time treat. Although rainy weekends often mean splashing in the puddles in wellies.
awww what a really beautiful post and such a super trip! its amazing that having kids and reliving things through their eyes make you all the more appreciative :-)
oh wow he looks in his element there with all those sweets way too many to choose form lol x
To be honest, we are out and about and running around all week that it is just nice to spend a quiet day at home, if we have a free Sunday then nothing better than curling up together and watching a film :)
I have recently just taken Erin to the cinema for the first time and she loved it. She is just five!
Cinema on a rainy day used to be a good choice for us too when our kids were young. Only downside was the extras they talked me into buying like pop corn, drink and sweets etc. But now I have happy memories of watching some great kids movies.
When the kids were little we used to go to a local soft play area or the swimming pool on rainy weekends. Your photos are as lovely as ever.
cinema is always good on a rainy weekend! glad he enjoyed it x
We still try to get out on rainy weekends, mostly to our local country park or National Trust properties. If we need some chilling time, then it will be playing on the Xbox at home- which usually involves lots of competition and jumping around in front of the screen with the Kinect - or a family pizza and film night.
I love being outdoors whatever the weather, though I prefer to be by the sea, I find it calming and relaxing x
I love that photo of your son in the sweet shop, bet he had a whale of a time picking lol
We love snuggling on the sofa on rainy days. With popcorn and a film on TV.
We have just had a weekend like this. Cinema this morning, just really taking a step back and focusing on enjoying our time together xx
The cinema is just perfect on a rainy weekend! xxx
Sounds like you fab a lovely day.
I want to take my little one to the cinema but I'm worried she that she will not sit through the whole film, she tends to get bored very quickly. Looks like you had a great time.

I love going to the cinema....films are perfect for rainy days aren't they? Looking forward to a trip to the cinema with you two....pickle mix essential!
i do love the cinema but you need a small mortgage these days, especially with my lot - nothing beats their pick and mix though
I love a cinema trip in the really rainy weather, but if it's not too cold it's always fun to put on the raincoats and have a splash! :)
Our rainy day fun is at home and involves games, baking and making although if we're feeling a bit crazy we do love to go walking in the woods as well!
Aww love the photo's and Wilf is super cute! We are not very outdoorsey at all and the kids enjoy being in (is that bad?) and cosy. I love nothing more that snuggling up to watch a movie together. But actually, going for a walk in the rain sounds exciting, next time we'll do that! You've inspired me!
