new hair!

outfit of the day, cath kidston dress, cowboy kaleidoscope boots and boden bag

If you follow me on IG you may have noticed that over the weekend I got my hair did! It's something I've been thinking about for a really long time but I've always thought that hair extensions only come in the Britney Spears 2007 variety with obvious clip ins and not a very natural look.

Turns out I was wrong and so my lovely neighbour/friend and hairdresser (I am so lucky to have my very own personal hair stylist across the road from me) went about working out what would be the best look for me.

I did think about blogging the process but we were nattering for so long I didn't really remember too. I suppose you all know what I look liked before though (just look at the post below if not!). This length and colour is actually the exact hair I had as an 18 year old.. I did try and search through old Facebook pictures for one to share but they are all so terrible I'm not sure I'm ready to show the internet grumpy teenage me...especially with the clothes and make up I used to wear back then!

Dress / Cardigan Bag / Boots

It's taking a bit of getting used to, especially with the weight and the fact that each section has been sewn into the hairline and so I'm having to learn how to wash and brush it a little differently. It's also a little weird to sleep on as it's much thicker (and there's so much of it!) but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Cath kidston spring summer dress

(p.s for those wondering about my weird belt, I couldn't find the one I was after and had to make a makeshift hole and safety pin job of this one)

It took a full day to put in as well as dye my hair. I'll have to have that redone in three months as they will have grown out a lot by then if I want to keep them in so there is quite a lot of upkeep and it's fairly pricey due to the amount of time that goes in it but I'm really pleased I went for it.

I hope you like it too! Have any of you had hair extensions? Any tips on upkeep would be greatly appreciated or if you have any questions I didn't cover then let me know!

p.s for those of you wondering about my black bracelet, it's actually a FitBit which I'm using to track my sleep for a post I'm working on. I'll be tweeting about different techniques I'll be trying over the week to help improve it.

I used to have all kinds of extensions back in the day, from natural to dreads and plastic! This looks lovely on you, and I love the darker colour, too.

I'm a big fan of extensions! I've had a weave for about 8 months now and I love it. It is itchy and tight for the first few days but you get used to it. The only problem is that once you're used to it you'll never want it out. I get my tightened up every 8 weeks and when they take it out it feels like I have no hair!

My main tips would be that you don't really need 'special shampoo'. I bought the expensive shampoo when I first had them done but once it ran out I went back to usual supermarket brands and can't tell the difference. Be very careful about the back getting knotty. If you have to tug at the knots the weave will come lose quicker.

After about 3 months I had my weave cut to be the same length as my natural hair. I found that the weave hair started to get straggly and looked a bit fake in comparison to my own hair. I'm not sure if that's the quality of the hair though!

no way! I've just been looking through your pics to see if I can tell (i can't) I've always thought your hair looks ace. This is so good to hear, I've been finding the itchiness something to get used to! I'm used to washing my hair daily otherwise it would get really flat so it's nice to not have to do that so much, I've been using dry hair shampoo for my roots & brushing gently with a weave brush. I can already feel like I won't ever won't to go back! thanks for all the tips xx

You look gorgeous. It suits you perfectly. I've got really thin hair and I've never dared to wear them that long (extensions or not). Love the dress also ;) xx cathy

Your hair looks amazing - beats the two year grow out I endured to get mine. Love the layers and it really suits you. The dress is beautiful too.

Ooo I've just got a new kitchen and I love it. I spent soooo many hours on Pinterest looking for inspiration - it's easy to feel overwhelmed with the amount of inspiration out there isn't it? Off to look at the white work tops now - intrigued!

We have just done our kitchen and I'm happy with it. There are one or two things I would change, but most of the compromises came from the room shape. I'd like a wider kitchen with a better eating area (and maybe room for a sofa too).

I would love a new kitchen, ours is well.. I shall not even go there. x

We will need a new kitchen once we've moved so I am putting a lot of thought into them at the moment. I'm not a fan of ultra modern kitchens but I do think the kitchen in your first photo is a nice balance between traditional and modern styling.

It looks great and I am so envious. After I cut my hair off for the little princess trust 18 months ago it's taken so long to get a small amount of length into it. I look back on my pics and miss that long hair, I might have to investigate the whole extension thing as it looks amazing and even if it was only for a few months i'd love long swishy hair!

That white kitchen makes me smile. Our plan for the next two years id to convert the garage making our kitchen much bigger and brigher

I would love a huge kitchen where the kids could play whilst I was cooking, I would love an island too! We would need an extension first though before we could have anything like these!

I have no idea to be honest. We are planning to change out kitchen but for the last 6 years we were not able to find a design we both agree on... we both change our mind way too often and too quick

Sob, I used to have my dream kitchen but unfortunately we had to move but it was very big with an aga, a big island in the middle and lots of windows so loads of light, lovely bold patterns on the curtains and blinds. Down the other end a huge table to fit us all around and a sofa so I could have a sneaky comfy sit down if I wanted. Out of the three above though I like the first kitchen the best.

Looks lovely! I've had my hair a similar short length for a while now and I'm wanting to go back to the long hair too! Love the outfit too, by the way :)

I would love any of those I have to admit. My own kitchen really needs some updating with new doors on all my cupboards and a bit of a paint job... a never ending list to do x

We are looking to renew our kitchen this year, as we have a galley style kitchen I really need to consider storage.

I think I've got my dream kitchen as we changed it about 7 years ago. It's a Schneider kitchen and I'd definitely recommend this brand as the units is standing up to family life very well.

I love big kichens with a lot of space! Mine isn't awfully small (I've had smaller and it's horrible to be all cramped) but it doesn't have space for an isle like I would love to have. I try to remind myself that less space means less to clean up...

I love the duck egg blue one it looks really nice.

A kitchen is the social hub of a house if its big enough. We get all our important talks done there. Love the look of some of these... especially that duck egg colour scheme.

Love your new hair, it looks amazing. I've always wanted extensions but not sure I have the time to look after them properly.

Lizzie Woodman said...

It looks fab! I wondered if you'd had extensions, or just magic hair... I just had mine cut off and now slightly regretting it, so the long 'growing it' phase begins again!

Oh wow I'd love to try something like this just for a change!

oh an island .. i love the idea of a kitchen island! .. now to save!

I love ALL of those kitchens. I really, really want a new kitchen!

Michelle Ashmore said...

I'm always dreaming about a new kitchen! Our last house had a really big kitchen, big enough for an 8 setting table. Our new one only just fits in a space saving breakfast table that's not big enough for five of us to sit round. If we ever win the lottery, we're having our kitchen extended so it includes a dining area and an island!

Looks amazing I massively want/need this done I have been growing out a pixie cut for 18 months and still not at a length I like. If I were to look at getting this done what should I search? Is it a particular "system" your hairdresser used?
