A trip to the big city

It's been so long since I've had a London visit (four months in fact). With morning sickness and pregnancy tiredness it just wasn't possible and if I'm honest pregnancy has made me want to stay close to home and a bit of a hermit of late.

So when a couple of emails popped into my inbox inviting me to a few press days I thought it was the perfect opportunity to meet up with some of my blogger pals and get out there. After all I'm going to be taking it easy in the next few months so I figured it was a good time to make a bit of an effort.

As my first appointment was at 8.30am myself and my lovely friend Kat headed up the night before to stay at Ibis Styles Kensington. A really funky little boutique style hotel 3 minutes walk from Earls Court tube station. Prices start at £70 which is super reasonable for London prices I think. It always feels very luxurious to have a proper nights sleep in a hotel room!

So bright and early we headed to the opening of the new Joules store at Northcote Road to meet our friend Alison. We had a lovely chat with Martine Joule (sister of founder Tom and product developer for the brand) who talked us through the new collection and the process behind the pieces. I was really surprised to hear that each design is hand drawn by their design team in house. You can see more about their design process here I found it really interesting!

After this we all headed off to our second appointment of the day, Christmas with Boden! I'm sure you all know by now what a big fan I am of the brand and I think their collections are just getting better and better. I've been buying a lot of their new seasons pieces as maternity wear and just getting the size up which has really saved me from a lot of maternity-wear boredom.

I lingered the longest in the baby floor, day dreaming about baby grows and little girl dresses (did you see the summer bits I picked up from them? the bloomers! - you can watch the haul here if you like)

Then naturally I decided to blend in with my surrounding..chameleon style ;)

(you can pick up the dress here* but they don't make the sofa..yet!)

Continuing with probably the most middle class day ever I had a quick coffee and a chat and then headed off for afternoon tea with an agency I work with (random fact Paul Merton was sitting at the table next to us, which makes my London celebrity spotting total..two - my other spot has been Dermot O'Leary ;). Before jumping on the train back to my boys, knackered but feeling like I'd done something grown up and for myself for the first time in a while.

I was a guest at the Ibis Styles but all words and thoughts are my own you can view Accor's hotel selection here.
