You know those times you find yourself in Dame Zandra Rhodes penthouse with one of your favourite fashion brands? Yer that..
So the other day I travelled up to London to do just that. As you may have seen from some of my previous posts I'm a huge fan of People Tree. I honestly never find it hard to be able to promote their beautifully made clothing (and they really are so well made and well cut) because they are a truly ethical brand. It's basically feel good shopping!
I've been working with the team for a good few months now on some outfit posts for the blog but I've never been able to actually attend any of their events in person up until now. With the baby due in just over a couple of months I know that this might be one of the last times I'll want to make the trip up and so when they invited me to preview the new Zandra Rhodes S/S collection with the lady herself (in her penthouse no less) I knew this was an opportunity that was too good to be missed.
In all honestly that morning I woke up after a night of the most terrible sleep, Tom was shivering next to me as he had come down with a fever and I wondered if I should call it off. I also felt very pregnant, tired and a little nervous if truth be told. All morning I was kind of waiting for Tom to say 'hey you've had a rough night, stay home' but it's annoying having someone who knows you so well, instead he said 'I think you'll regret it if you don't go' and I would have.
I also felt pretty self-conscious with my pregnancy figure (you know those days, some days you feel 'blooming' some days you feel like a potato...or the letter B). I did worry about attending an event where I wouldn't know anyone. The team couldn't have been lovelier though and I felt quite star struck to chat to Safia herself, such an inspiring woman. I was too shy to say hi to Zandra though!
Yes Zandra's penthouse was JUST as amazing as you might imagine..
The evenings talks were presented by Lucy Siegle, who visited Bangladesh with Zandra and People Tree founder Safia earlier this year. I found it really moving hearing about their trips to the factories and conditions that these women would live and work in without ethical fair trade companies like People Tree, it also reminded me once more how important it is when we can to shop this way.
