This past week has seen some amazing Spring weather and on Thursday we decided to make the most of it and hop on the bus to the other side of town. It sounds silly because Bristol is such a small city really but we hardly ever venture to the other side of the river! Mainly I guess because I tend to stay in my local area to catch up with friends and as everything is so walkable it sometimes seems like a faff to go that bit further.
Well I feel silly now as after seven years of living here I finally discovered how brilliant Spike Island is! We had met up with Tom's mum at the garden centre nearby so when we said our goodbyes we thought we might as well go and check it out at last. I'm so glad I did because it's brilliant and is now going to become a regular haunt I'm sure, especially as there is a direct bus from outside there to pretty much outside our house, what sillies we are for not knowing this sooner!
The exhibition that's currently showing is Michael Beutler's Pump House and it's 100% right up my street. Both me and Wilf were running around saying 'this is amazing!!' Although it's not an interactive piece it is meant to be tactile so you can touch the pieces and climb into the houses etc and there's no stern looking gallery assistant giving you a frowny face for doing so. In fact it's encouraged to really get down and explore the pieces. We loved it.
In case you are wondering my shirt dress is from here (and is breastfeeding friendly) my shoes are from here and my sunnies here. I wasn't 100% sure on the shirt dress at first as it's quite different to the type of outfit I usually wear but I've had so many nice compliments.
Wilf's top is from here although the rest of his outfit is old season H&M
This particular exhibition is running until the 19th of June so if you are local then you have plenty of time to go see it (if you haven't already, I'm aware that we are probably in the minority discovering this place!).
What's more it has a pretty amazing cafe with a great cake selection, I took the bullet and tasted a bit of all three, just for research purposes..
Isn't it such a brilliant piece? I have so many ideas for outfit posts with these as a background ha!
Have you visited Spike Island before? Isn't it great when you just stumble across a place that you've never been before and are so excited to visit again?
