Anyone who's read my blog will know I am a big fan of colour, all around my home you will see pops of colour, I'm drawn to colour blocking and try to stick to a colour scheme of bright yellows and turquoise with bits of pinks or green here or there. Whilst I do love visiting spaces with Scandinavian monochrome or muted palettes I know it's just not achievable for me and my taste, colours just make me happy!
I'm working with DFS today to share 90 years of colour, a theme based around 90 years of the queen and her love of the colour blocking outfits she has worn over the years! If anyone can pull off a canary yellow two piece suit combo and a snazzy hat it's her right?
The brief was to pick out a DFS sofa and style it up in my home accordingly. I chose this sofa which is the French Connection 4 seater fabric sofa in teal. I cannot tell you how much I fell in love with this sofa, I almost tried to convince Tom we needed to replace ours for it (considering we bought ours only 8 months ago he wasn't massively impressed with my suggestion!)
I tried to accessorise the area with with complimenting colours as well as matching it with similar toned picture frames and furniture.
Mabli actually fell asleep half way through me taking these so I popped her on the sofa and thought it was too cute not to take a picture of too!
We actually usually use the cabinet pictured as a TV stand but I loved using it to display some of my bits and pieces. I have to admit our living room is barely this tidy but for an afternoon I pretended it was. I matched the cushions to a similar toned rug to highlight some of the other features like the sofa, painted wall and cabinet.
Mabli enjoying playing on the rug with her bunny, Wilf was at nursery that day so we had a quiet afternoon to ourselves. I think she thought me moving everything around was quite fascinating!
This is how the room looks all together, I love the pops of colour here and there, not quite matching but all sort of tying in with each other too. It was the rainiest day when I took these pictures and seeing all the lovely colours definitely brightened it up.
The cushions on the sofa are actually also from DFS and go so well with it, I have a habit of buying lots of mix match cushions for our chairs and sofas and I'm leaning towards having matching ones like these instead just to tie it all in together a bit more.
This is my collection of Matryoshka dolls as well as some Sony Angels that I collected when I had my shop. I love the little spot of colour against the house shelf (I also used to sell these when I had my shop, pretty much one of the only reasons I ran it..to take one of each for me ;)).
I absolutely love how well this bright sofa fitted in our home and how well it fitted with my colour blocking living room theme too!
What do you think of how I styled this piece? Are you a fan of colour?
