Pregnancy Yoga

Last night I went to my first ever yoga class. It’s quite a big deal for me to start classes; I get this major dread and panic about it all. Like I’m starting a new school all over again, urgh it’s horrible. Even when I went to uni I used to occasionally get this thing where I’d turn up for my class, have my hand on the door to open it and just think 'I don’t have to do this, I can just run away, no one can stop me' silly really. Often I would do just that, just turn around and go home, for no reason.
It’s weird because I think I pretty much tackled meeting new people and am comfortable with that now, but an organized class still makes me nervy!
Anyways, the class started at 6:45 so Tom and I went and got some chips before hand and then he went to meet a friend until I had finished. My class wasn’t actually pregnancy yoga it was yoga but with different exercises if you are pregnant. The class before starting at 5.30 was for pregnant ladies only and they were leaving as I arrived and arranging coffee and talking about their bumps. I couldn’t make that class as I only finish work at 5.30 (btw what is it with pregnancy classes mainly being during the middle of the day? who are these ladies who don’t work?). Even though my class was really good and I enjoyed the lesson I really needed to be in the one before.
I have since found one that runs on a Sunday evening and is walking distance for me (this is the other issue, places I cannot get to as a non driver) so I think I'm going to try that one out. Yoga seems to be a really useful exercise to know during pregnancy and I can see why it would help in labour!
The other thing to happen last night was my lovely sister in law calling to ask if she could organise my baby shower. I am beyond excited! I didn’t really think much about it as it’s not really done in the UK but I'm so happy I get one..yay! xoxo

Well done for going! I do my yoga at home, with a dvd on - probably because I too, am irrationally terrified of joining new classes or groups on my own. It took me weeks to build up the confidence even just to enter a gym (gyms are scary!) to play badminton, and still, I had to send in my boyfriend first to investigate! Like it's some big scary black hole that will swallow me up or something!? Silly I agree!

I hope you find a good yoga class that is at a sensible time and nice and close. Once you break the ice with these things, it's always heaps of fun getting to know new people and you wonder why you were so worried in the first place! :)

I love the illo!

sorry to be all over your comments again, but thought i might might add my pennies worth...

i don´t know if it is too far for you, but i went to a class at Yoga west on gloucester road. it´s starts at 18.10 so hopefully you would be able to get there?

I found it really hard going to classes too, i only ever really spoke to a few people (mimi!) but i´m sure if you find one that is good the more you go it will be easier. I´m pretty shy about meeting new people but being pregnant is a good ice breaker because you can just talk about all the usual things like ´how far along are you etc´it gets a bit boring, but once you get over that its really good to talk to people who are going through all the same things as you!

anyway i shall be off now!

Someone told me after I posted this that my work should be able to give me time off/leave a bit earlier to make the 5.30 class so I am crossing my fingers!
Hope your having a lovely holiday (I am keeping up on your blog :)) xx
