Over the weekend Tom and I added a bookshelf to the hallway and re-organised some space in our living room. Not massive renovations but just some small jobs we wanted to get out the way to free up some space downstairs. We moved lots of Wilf's books onto the landing a little before bedtime, although he did help me stack them all on there he must have forgotten as the next morning we heard the usual patter of his feet as he made his way from his bedroom to ours and then.. 'OH look! my books!'
Instead of heading to our bed and waking us up at just gone 6am we heard him reading to himself on the landing. Tom and I looked at each other and realised that this was one of those really special moments in life, ordinary and magical all at the same time. Well, I thought that anyway, Tom maybe thought 'great! he's not coming to wake us up! ;)' but we both smiled listening him chatter away through book after book.
Being the person I am I couldn't just stay in bed and savour it, I had to try and sneakily capture the moment. Of course Wilf spotted me after a second and that was that, bouncing on the bed time and Tom send to make the morning cup of tea.

Ooh I love when they "read" to themselves. So sweet! That also reminds me that I like shelves in hallways. You've got me thinking about our space...
How lovely! It's great when they can keep themselves entertained isn't it. I love it when you move their things around and everything seems new to them again!
Arrrr! These are beautiful pictures! I love capturing the kiddies when they don't know they're being watched x
Great idea, put the books where they can reach them! I was so proud this week, my daughter pulled herself up for the first time - in order to reach out for a book.
A great idea. We have a few book storage areas around the house so hopefully they catch the children's eye a lot and they feel inspired to dive in.
great idea! There is a teeny weeny landing at the top of our stairs and a step up on each side to ente either bedroom. What a perfect place to put a bookshelf for madam's books that don't ever seem to be able to have enough of a home!
This is just gorgeous!

How beautiful and what a lovely idea. Harry has a cupboard full of books but I really want to get a case so they are more easily displayed. As much as he loves reading/being read to, it really is a case of "out of sight, out of mind" for him! x

I love listening to my 4 year 'read' to himself if he wakes up early.
That's a brilliant idea to put a little bookcase by the stairs! As soon as Theo has finished with his morning cuddle he has to go straight downstairs so it would be good for him to have something like this to occupy himself!
Aw what a cute idea to put a bookcase in the hallway. You have the most wonderful way with photos Fritha, I feel like I am there actually watching him. I love the angles you use. Watching my big girl read is one of the most enjoyable things as I am such a massive bookworm! x
What a great idea and how cute to hear your little boy reading away to himself. I'd have been sneaking a look too x
Wow, they do look lovely.
It is surprising how much the feel of the room is changing when you add such a small detail as a cushion
