a weekend in the city

The other weekend me and one of my oldest pals Dona decided to get out of our city of Bristol and head to London for a night away. Sometimes when you live in the same place trying to arrange getting together is harder because it's easy for things to come and to re-arrange and somehow months go past and you've not caught up in ages. Setting a date and booking some train tickets ensured we managed to make that date and although it almost didn't work due to lack of childcare (Wilf was still off nursery because of the chicken pox) Tom thankfully swapped a few things around and was able to watch him.

We stumbled across a roof top bar in Shorditch and after ordering a glass of wine and some yummy food we took in the beautiful Spring sunshine. Funny enough we bumped into a couple of Dona's friends on the roof and so we spent the afternoon making new friends and laughing until we had tears in our eyes (well me anyway!). I felt so good for the soul to be spending an afternoon this way and made me look forward to the summer even more! Roll on beer gardens and spending time outdoors with good people.

A little street art and a little street style of my buddy (sorry Dona! ;))

After our lunch we headed to K West Hotel and Spa in Shepard's Bush. It is located right by Westfield shopping centre so is designed to be the perfect a spa break in the city after you've spent the day shopping!

the view from our room, I love a bit of peeking into people's homes (as strange as that sounds!)

We arrived at 5.30 and after a little tour of the place we checked into our room and got ready to hit the spa. Unfortunately we were told the spa was fully booked for the evening and that we could call down to check availability throughout the evening but it was unlikely they would have room for us that evening. Instead they said that first thing in the morning would be a better time and so we decided to give it a try then.

The rooms were really spacious and comfortable with modern designed furnishings and a minimal look. As you know I'm probably more inclined towards mix century design or a scandinavian type interior so whilst it wasn't hugely to my taste it certainly felt like a really comfortable place to retreat to after a day in the city.

The hotel actually used to be the old BBC building so it has a large musical heritage which is shown with some of the art work around the place.

After lunch in the restaurant and an early-ish night we slept like logs and woke bright and early.

We headed down to spa at 8am to ensure we didn't miss out again and thankfully it was empty. I did try to book in for some treatments though and unfortunately they were fully booked all morning so if you are staying I would advise to book these in advance of your stay for sure!

The spa was really brilliant, regardless of the lack of treatments. It has a hydrotherapy pool, sauna and sunarium which we had all to ourselves and were fantastic. My favourite element though was the snow room! I've never been into one of these before so it was pretty hilarious to see how long we could stay in there before running back into the sauna.

I'd certainly recommend the hotel and spa as a place to visit if you are in the area, especially if you are planning a girly shopping day. Rooms are really pretty cheap for London standards at about £115 although packages can be bought for spa access, treatments and 'glam rock' afternoon tea!

We were guests at K West Hotel and Spa but all words and thoughts are my own
