A house update

I realised the other day it's coming up to a year since we moved into our 'new' place (how long can you keep calling it new I wonder?). I feel like we've made a really good go at starting to add our stamp to it and so wanted to share some of the changes we have made lately.

Firstly that we knocked down the inbuilt cupboards in our living and dining room which were talking so much space and not actually very useful for storing things. The tops were actual slate so a really substantial material but just not in keeping with what we wanted to do with the space. Instead, we made them into a little bench for the garden!

We also pulled up a bit of the ratty old carpet in the living room to discover black floorboards that we totally LOVE. So instead of stripping, sanding and staining as we originally planned, we are keeping the sort of weathered look to them and I think the dark is going to look amazing when the room is finally done.

Here is what it looks like usually haha

We also realised that we had wallpapered originally to the cupboards which now left an area at the bottom from the previous paint job (a dark red!) anyway we now have the job of choosing the new wallpaper. I'm leaning towards the teal, what about you?

Lastly, we have great plans for the side return too, we are planning on a huge gallery wall here, lots of plants (of course) and this wallpaper. Although I totally got the amount I needed wrong so another roll is on its way, whoops!

So those are our little updates so far!

I also have a separate Instagram called '@thebrighthome if you'd like to follow along with the renovation process
