Simple Aluminum Free Deodorant DIY

So, I ventured into making homemade deodorant, can you believe it? I was a bit iffy at first – could a kitchen concoction genuinely combat the daily underarm ‘glow’ of a running-after-toddlers mum? I mixed coconut oil, baking soda, and a few drops of lavender oil for a soothing whiff. The result? Surprisingly refreshing, and it held up, even on the testiest of days! Plus, slathering on something whipped up in my own kitchen felt so satisfyingly earth-mother. It’s kind to my skin, and I know exactly what’s in it – that’s a win. Fancy giving it a whirl?

When I told Tom last Sunday that I was headed to the bathroom to whip up a batch of homemade simple deodorant he promptly rolled his eyes. I could almost hear his brain saying ‘Really? must you??’.

Many years back I dated a rather posh boy who liked to delve into notions of being a young hippy/surfer type dude when the feeling took him (although in his heart he was quite conservative in his views). At one of these moments, he decided that deodorant was far too laced with harmful chemicals (actually he probably did have something there) and that I should throw mine away and instead opt for a crystal rock deodorant. Although I tried it for a few days I didn’t take to the idea and we later that year parted are ways (although not over deodorant decisions).

Homemade Deodorant DIY

You will need:

Coconut Oil
Bicarb of Soda
Essential Oil (whichever flavour you fancy, I chose lavender)
Optional – empty roll-on deodorant or simply use an old tub and smooth on with cotton wool.

You don’t need to be very precise about measurements (great for me the non-instructor reader) as a rule ever fits the bottom of your tub nicely and then around 20 drops of your essential oil will do it.

Simple as that! I can vouch that it does work and smells great too!

Since writing this post I’ve heard from people that might be sensitive to Bicarb. So I would love to recommend a natural aluminum-free deodorant that I use and personally love.
