Volksfest is a festival where families, campervan enthusiasts, and music lovers across the board come together in a celebration so vibrant, it could colour your whole summer with joy. This, my friends, is Bristol’s own Volksfest.

Volksfest Long Ashton
This weekend we decided to brave a small Bristol festival, one that we could go home afterward to our beds and wasn’t too far to travel (20 minutes), and guess what? We loved it! We had such a brilliant time at Volksfest we are definitely going to go next year and it’s even made me feel like I might be brave enough to try out others too. Volksfest is a car fest that mixes love of classic Volkswagen campers and Beetles with music and good food.
Now, I know parenting can sometimes feel like herding cats in a bouncy castle, but at Volksfest, the kiddos are far from footnotes in the festival agenda. There are circus skills workshops where they can wiggle and jiggle, soft play areas for the tiny ones to tumble in, children’s entertainers, and all the fun of the fairground rides.

Volksfest music
And when the evening tickles in, that’s when the beats come alive. Visualize live bands and DJs amidst a crowd as eclectic as the campervans themselves. There’s a harmony in the air, a thread that ties us all back to Bristol’s undeniable musical heritage. Honestly, my dears, it’s an atmosphere that’s hard to describe; you’ve got to feel it. Tapping your toes, with a local cider in hand. As car festivals go it doesn’t really feel like you need to have an interest in automobiles and wouldn’t really notice them too much if you weren’t.
The weather did get a little chilly and it DID rain (that picture of me and Tom was after the downpour if you can tell from our hair) but only for a short while and we survived. Our two year old slept in the sling for an hour which was long enough for my seven-year-old to play on some of the rides that she wouldn’t have been old enough to go on which definitely helped. I think Mabli is starting to get to the age where she can join in with things in the kid’s area and as we’ve stopped breastfeeding is becoming a bit more independent from me.

Volksfest food
Food-wise, oh, it’s amazing! Street food from every corner you can think of, and it’s good, really good. From spicy little delicacies that’ll make your taste buds feel like they’re dancing salsa, to the ultimate oozy, cheesy toasties that you just need at a festival, Volksfest has got you covered.
There’s this indescribable friendliness at Volksfest Bristol, an undercurrent of solidarity and shared passion that blooms wonderfully amidst families and friends, new acquaintances, and old pals. You share stories and snaps, not just of your experiences at Volksfest, but of life beyond the festival fields.
The nitty-gritty of it all is even more appealing. We’re talking about nice practical stuff – clean facilities (a parent’s dream), variety of camping options, and a well-thought-out layout that means you’re never too far from the necessities while being in the midst of the festivities.
It’s been a reminder to me to try new things and also that as the kids get older things get simpler. It’s reinforced my feeling that we are done at two children and it’s made me excited for all the fun we can have together over the summer!
So grab your family, your friends, heck, grab your neighbor’s gran if she’s up for it, and dive headfirst into the merry, motoring mayhem of Bristol’s Volksfest. Who knows, you might just find a piece of nostalgia you never knew you were looking for!
