It’s been a full year of home education since we deregistered Mabli from school. I don’t think I wrote a separate post about our decision at the time. I think because were six months into home educating with Wilf and maybe still figuring it all out. There is no doubt that both my children are experiencing the benefits of homeschooling.
Benefits of Homeschooling

In many ways, I can’t believe a whole year has passed; in others, it feels like this was always the way it was. Perhaps because Mabli only attended six months of reception year. Three of those are remote school learning. With Wilf, it felt like a bigger decision as we were three and half years into the schooling process.

There hasn’t really been a shadow of a doubt that this is right for our family at this point in time. Mabli’s confidence has come on massively. So much so that strangers often point out how confident both children are. It often takes me by surprise but then I’m reminded that they are so comfortable speaking to both adults and children equally. I think home education has definitely affirmed for them that they are equal and that their voice is just as interesting or knowledgeable.

Home education over this past year or so has made me look at the way we parent. The way we think of children as small adults to mold rather than people in their own right already.

Whilst we don’t have all the answers to everything and are constantly learning (in all aspects of life!). I think for me the main thing is if it feels right, then do it. Doing life together as a family and learning along the way feels like the biggest gift.
We are so so happy to celebrate a year of having more of you in our lives Mabli Kittiwake!
