One of the major highlights of 4 Cannery Row is its exceptional location. Just a short stroll away from the golden sands of Hayle Beach, guests are treated to easy access to one of Cornwall’s finest coastlines. Whether you are a parent with early risers spending the whole day amongst the dunes or looking for leisurely walks at sunset, the proximity to the beach offers unmatched opportunities to appreciate the beauty of the Cornish coast. The expansive beach is ideal for various activities, from swimming and surfing to sandcastle and picnicking. My eight-year-old wore herself out each day climbing over the many sand dunes and racing back down them!
One of our favorite parts of staying in this beautiful holiday let in Cornwall is the balcony. The apartment spans three floors with the master bedroom on the lower floor hosting its balcony and the living space. The top floor bedroom looks over the living space with views of the water and like the master bedroom also has an on-suite.

Hayle offers a vibrant food scene that caters to various tastes, and by staying at coastal retreats like Beach Retreat’s Cannery Row, you are never too far from good food. For those who cherish the taste of the sea, The Salt Kitchen serves up fresh, locally sourced seafood that reflects the richness of Cornish waters (if you are a veggie then I highly recommend the deep-fried brie sandwich).
For a quick bite or a lovely outdoor meal, Philp’s Famous Pasties – a local favorite – offers Cornish pasties that are perfect for a beach day snack. Vegetarians and vegans need not worry, as they provide excellent plant-based options without compromising on the flavors that are quintessentially Cornish. My twelve-year-old requested a pasty every day during our trip here!
For coffee and cake on the beach, I’d highly recommend Cove Beach Cafe and you can’t go wrong with Iced on the Quay (the queue alone proves this one is a winner!). There are plenty of pubs in Hayle to choose from but we stopped for a pint and a packet of crisps at the Bluff Inn which is perfect for sea views and a small playground for the kids. Lastly, if you are looking for fish and chips in Hayle (what seaside break is complete without them) we thought the ones from Sanders Fish and chips were great.

Family holidays in Cornwall are always a good idea but I think Beach Retreats do find the cream of the crop when it comes to their holiday homes. I loved the mix of luxury and practicable when it came to their Cannery Row properties. The kitchen also was impressively stocked with all the cookware you could need and we loved that they had a washer and dryer (for when we needed to quickly wash a dress that had fallen foul of an ice cream spillage).

Shops in Hayle consist of the usual supermarkets as well as some lovely local shops too. Pratts Market houses some great independents as well as a cute little cafe that sells traditional sweets (and dairy-free Fudge which was perfect for my daughter!).
A Brilliant weekend in Hayle
This is our second time staying with Beach Retreats and I can’t recommend them enough. There are so many options and locations to choose from on their site. Staying at Cannery Row in Hayle was perfect for our family and with it sleeping 6 we could easily have invited the in-laws for some babysitting too (next time!). As Cornwall holidays on the beach go I really think it covered all bases.
