Have you ever been to Llandudno, Wales? It’s a charming seaside town and home to one of my favorite attractions: the Great Orme Tramway. This historic Llandudno cable car tramway is a must-see for anyone visiting the area, and it’s an experience I think the whole family will enjoy.
The Great Orme Tramway
The Great Orme Tramway is the only cable-hauled street tramway in Great Britain, and it’s been running since 1902. It takes you on a scenic journey up the Great Orme, a huge rocky outcrop that overlooks the town of Llandudno. As you ride the cable car Llandudno, there are some breathtaking views of the Welsh coastline and the town below. When we went it was pretty windy and very busy (it was the summer holidays) but so worth it all the same.

Be prepared: if you are not great with heights then you should know there is a very steep incline right from the get-go. It’s really cool because you almost immediately get the sea views but I have to admit it did make me feel a little wobbly.
Once you reach the summit, you can take a leisurely stroll around the amazing countryside and see the wild flowers and serene natural scenery, or enjoy some refreshments at the summit complex’s café. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also take a ride on the Great Orme Cable Car, which offers panoramic views of the North Wales coast and the surrounding countryside. We wanted to take this option back down but unfortunately it wasn’t running due to the winds.
