Natural Lip Balm
This is my favourite recipe for handmade lipbalm. It’s easy to make and keeps your lips soft and lovely, especially helpful at this time of year. One of the best things about making your own products, is that you can choose your own, pure ingredients and customise it to suit your own personal tastes.
You’ll Need:
2 tbls. olive oil
1/2 tsp. honey
3/4 tsp. beeswax — grated
1/2 tsp. pure cocoa butter
Flavored oil of your choice
1 vitamin E capsule
Using a bain marie {or a bowl over a saucepan} heat the oil, honey, beeswax and cocoa butter over a low heat until they are just melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
Stir in the oil and contents of the vitamin E capsule. In these I used sweet orange essential oil, as I love the uplifting scent, it reminds me of summer – which when we’re in the depths of winter can be quite a nice reminder!
Pour into a small container, and leave to set. Note – this makes quite a soft lipbalm, perfect for pots. If you wish to pour it into lip balm tubes, or just want a harder natural lip balm, add a little more beeswax when you are melting the ingredients together.
