Spending a Weekend in Beautiful Bridport, Dorset

A couple of weeks ago we visited Bridport, Dorset for probably the last time in a while. Before the holidays ended we started back on our new beginnings of homeschooling and starting school. Tom grew up in the town but his mum is now making the move to Bristol where all her children and grandparents live.

I didn’t end up taking many pictures on this trip as I felt like we were purely relaxing. The house has been so hectic lately with the reno work that I don’t think we realised how much we needed to be free of it even for a couple of days. We’ve finished the loft conversion now (blog post to come) although we have about a thousand hours of painting and then a load of carpet that needs putting down before we can move into the rooms.

Anyway, I wanted to share the pics we did take in Bridport. We travelled down on the train which was our first train trip since the pandemic started. It’s only a couple of hours so not too hard to wear a mask, plus it was super empty so a very easy trip.

As Tom’s mum is moving from Bridport to Bristol before the end of the year I think it might be our last trip down at least for a while. It will be so nice to have her living close though, especially for the kids to whom she is one of their very favourite people.

We didn’t get to check out many of our favourite haunts (Soulshine cafe being one) as it was just too busy. We did get a little mooch along the Bridport market though and the kids picked out some Teeny Boo’s (anyone else’s kids obsessed with these?!)

We tried to see the beach but it was too windy. Mabli and I had a great time watching the boats bobbing and the families crabbing on the side.

It’s a funny thing saying goodbye to a place of childhood. Although I don’t know Bridport well it felt odd saying goodbye to Aberystwyth when my parents moved to Norfolk.
