There’s something special about a crisp autumn morning in Cardiff, and Canton is the perfect neighbourhood to soak it all in. Wide leafy streets, creative independents, and a buzz that feels both laid-back and stylish – it’s the ideal backdrop for an autumn walk. This weekend, I took a slow wander through Canton, punctuated by visits to two of my favourite coffee spots: Hard Lines and Floc, all while road-testing my new seasonal staple from The Very Collection.

The Morning Start: Hard Lines Coffee
Kicking things off on Cowbridge Road, Hard Lines Coffee is a must for any Cardiff caffeine lover. Known for their bold branding and equally bold espresso, the café radiates good vibes. I settled in with a flat white and a slice of key lime pie and watched the neighbourhood wake up – cyclists whizzing past, dog walkers bundled up against the cool breeze, and locals grabbing their morning fix. They also now have pumpkin pie on the menu to really get you into the autumnal mood.
Autumn dressing in Cardiff is all about balancing comfort with style, and The Very Collection Contrast Collar and Cuff Barn Jacket in khaki is exactly that. With its utility-inspired silhouette, it’s practical for layering, while the contrast detailing elevates it into a piece that feels chic, modern, and versatile.

Wandering Through Canton
From Hard Lines, a stroll through Canton is a chance to see the area’s creative side – independent shops, murals splashed across brick walls, and that sense of community you get in Cardiff’s neighbourhoods. Autumn colour palettes dominate: rusty oranges, earthy browns, deep greens. They also happen to pair perfectly with the khaki barn jacket, which slips easily over knits and tees alike.
As far as wardrobe building goes, I’ve been leaning into an autumn layering checklist: a durable jacket, textured knitwear, and boots sturdy enough for walking yet stylish enough for brunch. A jacket like this is one of those utility jackets you’ll keep reaching for – practical but polished. Pair it with jeans and trainers for a casual morning, or cinch in with a belt and add knee boots for a smarter take. The Very collection has such a wide range of autumnal pieces at the moment you’ll be spoilt for choice.

A Midday Pause: Floc Café
No wander through Canton is complete without a stop at Floc. Nestled on Cowbridge Road, it’s beloved for its understated interiors and excellent toasties. The vibe here is small and chill, making it perfect for catching up with a friend or settling down with a book. My tip would be to go for the cheese and garlic toastie!

Canton, Coffee & Autumn Style
Walking back through Canton with a takeaway cup in hand, I realised how much autumn in Cardiff is about slowing down, savouring the little things – a good coffee, a comfortable jacket, a neighbourhood that feels like home. This jacket from Very has already become a cornerstone of my wardrobe. It’s the kind of piece that works just as well layered with chunky knits for a walk as it does styled with smart boots for city evenings.
Canton’s charm lies in its mix of energy and ease – and this jacket, much like the neighbourhood, makes autumn feel stylishly effortless.
