If you’ve been searching for an honest Domes Lake Algarve review before booking your next sunshine escape, this one’s for you. We recently enjoyed a four night family holiday in Portugal staying at Domes Lake Algarve Residences in Vilamoura, booked as part of a Jet2 Algarve holiday package, and it genuinely delivered on every level—from location to luxury to family-friendly ease.

Domes Lake Algarve Review
Booking Our Algarve Holiday with Jet2
We booked through Jet2holidays, opting for a package holiday to the Algarve Portugal, this included flights to Algarve with Jet2 from UK and transfers. Flying from Bristol made things simple, and if you’re looking at flights from Bristol Airport, it’s honestly such a convenient option for families. We love flying from smaller airports like this for a more relaxed start to our break.
Choosing a Jet2 holiday genuinely takes so much stress out of planning. Everything is bundled together, which is why Jet2holidays are so popular with families wanting a seamless experience.
Arrival in the Algarve

Landing in Faro, you immediately feel that shift—warmer air, slower pace, and that unmistakable holiday buzz. For those wondering about the journey from Faro airport to Vilamoura hotels, the transfer time is short and straightforward (around 30 minutes) —ideal after travelling with kids.
The Algarve is one of Europe’s top destinations for families, thanks to its golden beaches, reliable sunshine, and welcoming atmosphere. This was our second trip to the area and it certainly won’t be our last. If you’re browsing holidays to the Algarve with Jet2holidays, it’s easy to see why this region is so popular. Think stunning coastlines, charming towns, and plenty of activities to keep both kids and adults happy.

First Impressions of Domes Lake Algarve Residences
Arriving at Domes Lake Algarve Vilamoura, it’s immediately clear why this is considered one of the best resorts in Algarve 2026. The setting is stunning—a peaceful lakeside resort surrounded by greenery, yet just moments from the beach and marina.
If you’re researching luxury holidays in Algarve resorts or 5 star hotels Algarve Portugal, this one absolutely belongs on your shortlist. It blends a boutique feel with the amenities of a larger resort, making it ideal for both couples and families. Read on for our Domes Lake Algarve review!

Our One Bedroom Self Catering Apartment
We stayed in a one bedroom self catering apartment at Domes Lake, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions for travelling as a family. Prior to arriving we weren’t quite sure if this set up would work for us because we have two children (one of which is a teenager) and we weren’t entirely sure of the logistics.
However on arrival we saw the set up was a large queen size bed in the bedroom and two camp beds in the living room which meant we all had lots of space. The living room and kitchen was actually much larger than expected with a dining table and sofa plus four balconies, two with outside seating.
Having a self-catering setup meant we could easily pop back for snacks, quick lunches, or a breather from the sun—something that makes a huge difference with kids. If you’re searching for apartment style hotel Algarve options or self catering luxury Algarve, this is exactly the kind of setup that works. It gave us flexibility without sacrificing the feel of a premium resort Algarve experience.

Pools, Beach & Resort Facilities
One of the biggest highlights—and something that really sets this apart from other Algarve beach resorts— is the variety of pools.
There are four pools at Domes Lake, including:
- Heated pools
- Quieter, adult only relaxed areas
- A beautiful beachside pool overlooking the lake
The beachside pool quickly became a favourite. It combines the best of both worlds—pool comfort with stunning views.
Poolside Dining & Relaxed Evenings
While we had the flexibility of self-catering, we did enjoy some relaxed dining at the resort too. On our last day, we ate poolside—keeping things simple with bar snacks like fries and arancini. We actually found the prices really reasonable with food and drinks coming to around £40. Cocktails were around £10 with pints of beer around £5 and soft drinks around £3.80
The poolside area It was exactly what you want from a holiday moment: laid-back, sunny, and easy. Throughout the week, we also ordered cocktails around the pool, which definitely added to that luxury holidays Algarve feel. I highly recommend a spicy margarita!
For those considering all inclusive Algarve family resorts, this offers a nice middle ground—freedom to self-cater, but great on-site options when you don’t feel like cooking.
The resort also offers a variety of dining options over five different resteruants including Gustatio for international buffet-style dining, Topos for modern Portuguese cuisine, Makris on the Lake for fine dining, Antonino’s for Italian dishes, SORA for Japanese-Peruvian fusion, and Estrella for relaxed Mediterranean and poolside bites.
Family-Friendly Activities at the Resort
If you’re searching for family friendly resorts Algarve or kid friendly hotels Vilamoura, Domes Lake Algarve really shines when it comes to activities.
There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained:
- Kayaking on the lake (a real highlight!) this costs £12.95 per Kayak (each kayak fits two people)
- Table tennis and a pool table outside for some friendly family competition
- Free bicycles to explore the surrounding area
These small but thoughtful touches make a big difference. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a place to experience.
Kids Club at Domes Lake Algarve
One of the things that really makes Domes Lake Algarve stand out as a family friendly resort in the Algarve is its approach to children’s activities. The on-site Kids Club (KiEPOS) is designed for children aged 4–12 and is complimentary.
What sets it apart from a typical hotel kids club is that it’s built around educational and creative play, inspired by Montessori-style learning, meaning children aren’t just being entertained—they’re actually gaining new experiences.
Activities go beyond the usual crafts and games too. Kids can get involved in eco-focused experiences like planting herbs and flowers in the garden, helping them connect with nature in a fun, hands-on way. There are also multilingual programmes, outdoor play, and themed sessions that reflect the local Algarve culture, which makes it feel a bit more special than your standard kids club offering.

Spa & Indoor Pool at Domes Lake Algarve
If you’re looking to balance family time with a bit of proper relaxation, the spa at Domes Lake Algarve is one of those features that really elevates the whole stay. The on-site Soma Spa draws on a mix of modern treatments and more traditional wellness rituals, offering everything from massages and facials to more advanced therapies.
What makes it especially nice is that it doesn’t feel like an afterthought—it’s a proper spa experience. There’s a strong focus on slowing down and switching off, with treatments tailored to help you reset and recharge. The spa area itself is mostly adults-only, however children are welcome during the hours of 10am – 2pm.
The indoor pool, located within the spa, is a lovely addition—particularly if you’re travelling slightly out of peak summer or just want a quieter swim away from the main pools. This is actually one of four pools at the resort, with the indoor option offering a more serene, wellness-focused space to unwind. It’s worth noting that your hour at the indoor pool needs to be pre booked but when we visited in April we had the whole place to ourselves.

Exploring Vilamoura & Beyond
The location is perfect if you want to explore beyond the resort. For evenings, we loved heading to Vilamoura marina. It’s ideal for families, with a lively but relaxed atmosphere.
We spent time enjoying ice creams, drinks, and soaking up the views—definitely one of the best things to do in Vilamoura Algarve. My ten year old daughter was also a big fan of the souvenir shops!
Day Trip to Loulé Algarve
One of our favourite experiences was taking a day trip to Loulé. It’s about a 20-minute Uber ride from the resort, making it an easy and worthwhile outing. We found using the Uber app really good for things like this and the cost worked out around £8 for the journey.
If you’re planning an Algarve holiday itinerary, I’d definitely recommend adding this in. Loulé offers a more traditional Portuguese feel, with charming streets, local markets, and a slower pace compared to the coastal resorts. We loved checking out the food market and specifically the plant based cafe ‘By Family’ where we were able to drink freshly squeezed juice and try a vegan version of the traditional Portuguese dish ‘Bifana’.
A trip to Loule is a great contrast to Vilamoura and adds a little depth to your trip—perfect for those looking for more than just beach time during their relaxing holidays Portugal.

Location, Beaches & Accessibility
The Algarve is known for having some of the best beaches Algarve Portugal, and this area is no exception. The proximity to the coast means you can easily switch between pool days and beach days.
The walk from resort to the local beach takes around five minutes and offers soft sand and beautiful cliffs. There are also multiple beach bars including SORA beach bar which is part of the Domes Lake hotel.
