We’ve just come back from an amazing trip to Lanzarote in April. There’s something about a springtime escape to the sun when you are cheating the grey skies and drizzle back home. We recently spent three full days on one of the loveliest family holidays we’ve had in ages – soaking up that Canary Island sunshine at the Barcelo Lanzarote Active Resort. And honestly? It was exactly what we needed.

Flying with Jet2holidays
We searched for holidays to Lanzarote with Jet2holidays and booked our flights from Bristol Airport to Lanzarote Airport within the package. The whole process couldn’t have been smoother – super family-friendly check-in, no drama, and everyone on board was lovely with the kids. Our children are now at the brilliant age of being able to entertain themselves, and I didn’t even need to dig too far into the snacks and entertainment carry on I’d packed. If you’re considering flights to Lanzarote with Jet2, I can’t recommend the service enough (even if you get Jess Mcglynn’s ‘Darling hold my hand’ stuck in your head for the rest of that day!).
Barcelo Lanzarote Active Resort
The Barcelo Lanzarote Active Resort is just a short drive from Lanzarote airport, and it’s perfectly located for families who want that blend of chill and adventure. As we’d booked with Jet2holidays, we were able to use their transfer service, which was a super smooth process. The journey time from the airport to the resort was around 15-20 minutes, and the Barcelo Active Resort was the first to be dropped off.
Royal level at the Barcelo Active Resort Lanzarote
We knew we’d want to book an all-inclusive in Lanzarote (hello, buffet freedom!), but after arriving and seeing the Royal Level option, we decided to upgrade. It was a bit of a treat, but 100% worth it. The difference is we had a smaller, more private pool, a more intimate dining space, poolside service, and just that little extra bit of calm that makes everything feel extra special. This cost us just under £200 extra for the duration of our stay. If we had a longer stay we might not have taken the plunge but we were really happy with our decision to on this occasion.
As we were only there for three full days the upgrade felt really worth it, but we also would have had a fantastic time without the upgrade if we had been staying longer. The resort has 9 pools, so you are spoilt for choice. I think if you were staying with much younger children, the non-royal level might work better, so you’d be closer to the splash pools and baby pools that are on the other side of the hotel. The resort is split into two different hotels (located just over the road from each other)
Well thought out family holidays
The resort itself is incredibly well-thought-out for families. Whether you’ve got toddlers who want to splash around in the kids’ pool or slightly older ones who want to try out the mini-golf, arcade, or kids’ club, there’s honestly something for everyone. I was almost tempted to try the SUP yoga, but in the end skipped it to read my book by the pool (and order another mojito!).
The resort isn’t just for families, it’s also designed for people who are into sports or training teams. There is also an Olympic-size pool, gym, and even a triathlon every Wednesday for those who want a more active holiday! (You do you but I’m all about staying by the pool with a cocktail in hand)
In the middle of the resort is ‘La Plaza’ where evenings are all about open-air shows, themed nights, and a bit of fun with glow-in-the-dark 3D mini golf. Younger children have the Barcy Club keeping them busy with sporty bits, a splash park shaped like a giant octopus and a chilled-out teen zone with video games and squishy seats.
Stressfree quality family time
One of my favourite things? How easy everything felt. You know those family holidays where you’re constantly trying to figure out where to eat or how to keep everyone happy? This wasn’t that. From the generous buffet with plenty of choice (and yes, chips every day if that’s your kids’ thing) to the amazing smoothies and food choices for the grown ups, mealtimes were genuinely enjoyable.
My daughter also used the buffet as an opportunity to try out different foods, and as a vegetarian family, we found there to be lots of options for us to try each day. The ease of mealtimes is of these reasons we definitely wanted to chose an all inclusive in Lanzarote.
Three full days might not sound like a lot, but honestly? It was the perfect mini break. Just enough time to switch off, recharge, and make some core family memories. We came home sun-kissed (ok, I burnt my shoulders) and relaxed in that way only a good holiday can deliver.
Spring Sun in Lanzarote
If you’re considering holidays to Lanzarote, especially with kids in tow, I can’t recommend the Barcelo Lanzarote Active Resort enough. Whether it’s the splash parks, the easy-going vibe, or the fact that you can upgrade to Royal Level for that extra bit of luxury, it just works. Jet2holidays made the whole thing seamless – from booking to landing back at Bristol Airport with slightly sandy shoes and sun-kissed faces.
