1. Airbnb & Holiday Rentals
This is an option that is ideal for families who need space, privacy, and a home-like environment, Airbnb and holiday rentals offer full apartments or houses. Ideal for large families, as you can have multiple bedrooms, a kitchen to prepare meals, and sometimes even extra perks like a backyard or a pool. Plus, they are often located in residential neighborhoods, maybe offering a more authentic experience of the destination.

2. Hotels
Hotels are a classic and convenient option, especially if you’re looking for on-site amenities like pools, restaurants, and kids’ clubs. Many family-friendly hotels offer connecting rooms, babysitting services, and entertainment programs to keep younger ones engaged. If you prefer not to cook on holiday, hotels often provide breakfast buffets and room service, making your stay hassle-free.
We find hotels a great option when staying somewhere for one to two nights. Some of our favourite hotel trips are generally in London. I particularly recommend Ember Locke, 100 Queens Gate hotel and the Sheraton Grand.
3. Family Hostels
Think hostels are just for backpackers? Think again! Many modern hostels now offer private family rooms at budget-friendly rates. They also provide communal areas where kids can meet other young travelers and parents can cook together. This is a great way to save money while still enjoying a social and interactive travel experience.

4. Caravan Parks & Campgrounds
For families who love the outdoors, caravan parks and campsites are a fantastic choice. They offer an affordable way to travel while staying close to nature. With options ranging from tent sites to fully equipped cabins, these parks often include playgrounds, BBQ areas, and family-friendly activities, making them an excellent choice for an easy family holiday.
Some of our favourite camping and caravan experiences have been in Eurocamps, especially the Bi Village location in Croatia and Duinrell in The Netherlands.
5. Bed & Breakfasts (B&Bs)
For a cozy and personalized stay, B&Bs offer a warm and welcoming environment. Many hosts provide homemade breakfasts and local tips, giving families a unique and intimate experience. This option is especially great for those traveling to smaller towns or countryside destinations where hotels may be limited.
