Our Family Adventure at Duinrell Eurocamp in the Netherlands

Less than an hour from Amsterdam, Duinrell Holiday Park is a family destination that offers adventure, chilled vibes, and a quintessentially Dutch experience. Our October stay at Duinrell was one of our absolute favourite trips we’ve taken as a family so far.

With excellent transport links, Duinrell theme park is a favorite among families visiting from the UK. From theme park rides and the renowned Duinrell Tikibad to cycling adventures and Dutch pancakes. Our Duinrell camping trip was packed with unforgettable moments.

Unlike the usual European camping trips, where you’re constantly on the move to visit attractions elsewhere, Duinrell offers everything right on site. Our kids hardly wanted to leave the gates, which is quite telling when you have children with different ages and interests!

I’m here to share the unfiltered truth about our stay, and whether this Eurocamp location truly offers value for families seeking that perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

Our Family’s Review of Camping at Duinrell

Duinrell combines the best of both worlds: a full-scale Duinrell theme park with comfortable holiday park accommodations. Families can enjoy unlimited access to all attractions, including the famous Tikibad waterpark, without the hassle of daily admissions or queuing at entrance gates. A refreshing change from typical theme park visits.

Duinrell Eurocamp Tikibad
Staying at Duinrell Holiday Park with Eurocamp

Eurocamp provides the accommodation at Duinrell, offering mobile homes that blend comfort with convenience. These aren’t basic caravans, Eurocamp’s mobile homes come fully equipped with kitchens, private bathrooms, and outdoor decking areas perfect for family meals after park adventures.

Camping at Duinrell is part of the holiday fun in itself, blending the comforts of home with the excitement of an on-site theme park. We stayed in a Eurocamp ‘Ultimate accommodation‘, which provided everything we needed, from ready-made beds to a Eurocamp welcome pack. The modern design, air conditioning, and spacious decking made it feel both like a bit of luxury and a home away from home.

Being located right within Duinrell Park is a brilliant advantage of staying at this particular Eurocamp site. Duinrell ‘attracties’ (attractions) are free for guests staying at the campsite. However, access to the famous Duinrell Tikibad (waterpark) requires an additional fee, though discounted rates are available for on-site guests. At around €10 per person, it’s well worth it for a few hours of water slide thrills.

In the interest of balance the Tikibad is in fact free for guests who book accommodation through Duinrell itself. However you would need to offset this with the difference in price of the accommodations AND how much you see yourself using the pool.

Tikibad: The Iconic Duinrell Waterpark

The Duinrell Tikibad is a highlight of any visit. With 21 slides catering to all ages and thrill levels, it’s no wonder it’s one of the most talked-about features in Duinrell reviews. From the children’s slides in the Playa area to high-speed rides like Turbo, there’s something for everyone. Our family especially loved the lazy river, which became an instant favorite.

This indoor tropical waterpark features slides that cater to every thrill level. From gentle children’s flumes to the legendary “Fly-Over” slide that sends riders through transparent tunnels extending outside the building.

The facility maintains a comfortable climate year-round, making it ideal for off-season holidays when outdoor activities might be limited. Wave pools, lazy rivers, and dedicated toddler areas ensure everyone finds their comfort zone. However, peak summer days can see significant crowding—arriving when doors open typically provides the best experience. As numerous Duinrell eurocamp review blog posts emphasise, planning your Tikibad visits strategically around meal times or early morning slots delivers shorter queue times and more relaxed swimming conditions.

Guests are allocated two-hour slots at the Tikibad, which we found more than fine (we didn’t use our full two hours in fact). The facilities, including free lockers and family-friendly changing areas, were spotless. There’s also a café serving snacks and drinks for those wanting to relax while others splash around.

We did so much during our week here that we actually couldn’t have fitted another trip to the Tikibad. However if you feel that you would visit it more than a few times then it might be worth looking at the deals booking through the site.

Eurocamp Accommodation at Duinrell

The mobile homes at Eurocamp Duinrell blend modern convenience with thoughtful family design, creating a comfortable base that feels far removed from traditional camping. Eurocamp accommodations anchor the Duinrell theme park experience. Offering families private outdoor spaces alongside indoor amenities that actually work. Unlike some holiday park setups where essentials feel like afterthoughts.

The interiors feature separate bedrooms that provide genuine privacy, a practical benefit when traveling with multiple children or extended family. Kitchens come fully equipped with everything needed for self-catering. From cookware to microwaves, while bathrooms include proper showers rather than the cramped facilities some expect from park accommodation. For families who appreciate being well-prepared, these mobile homes eliminate the need for bulky camping gear while maintaining that holiday park atmosphere.

However, accommodation standards vary across Eurocamp’s range. What remains consistent is the layout designed specifically for families. Covered decking areas for rainy Netherlands mornings and sunny afternoons. Storage that handles beach gear, and proximity to both Tikibad and the wider park attractions that makes multiple daily trips entirely practical.

Eurocamp’s ‘Ultimate Accommodation‘ which we stayed in provides a great balance of luxury and practicality. The spacious interiors are fitted with modern conveniences, including a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, and even central heating for cooler months. The outdoor decking area, complete with loungers and a dining set, was a lovely spot to relax after a day at the park with a glass of something and some nibbles.

Dining Options at Duinrell

Duinrell Park offers plenty of choices for dining. The Plaza has a well-stocked supermarket where we found all the essentials for self-catering, including fresh produce and vegetarian options. We found the onsite supermarket to be fairly reasonable (more so than some other Eurocamps we have visited in fact). For dining out, La Place Restaurant offers wholesome meals, while the on-site Take Away serves quick bites like pizza and fries.

The on-site restaurant at Duinrell Holiday Park delivers straightforward family-friendly meals. Serving familiar favorites (think burgers, pizza, and pasta). Appealing to kids while offering enough variety for adults seeking something beyond typical theme park fare.

For families seeking the best Eurocamp Netherlands experience, the self-catering option within your mobile home provides significant flexibility. Each accommodation includes a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances. This is great for families particularly with younger children who need dinner at home as part of their bedtime routines.

The park features a small supermarket stocking essential groceries, fresh bread, and basic supplies. However, most families find better value and selection at larger supermarkets in nearby Wassenaar, just a short drive away. We generally found ourselves self-catering breakfasts and packed lunches with occasional restaurant dinners, balancing convenience against budget considerations.

The nearby town of Wassenaar, just a short walk from Duinrell, is another excellent spot for dining. From traditional Dutch pancakes to international cuisine, there’s something for every palate. The larger supermarket in Wassenaar is convenient for those looking to stock up on supplies which we did and found easy to do so on foot.

Getting to Duinrell by Public Transport

Traveling to Duinrell by public transport is a breeze. From Schiphol Airport, we took a 30-minute train ride to Leiden Central Station, followed by a direct bus to Duinrell Park. The journey was scenic and stress-free, with children under 12 traveling for free. Public transport in the Netherlands is efficient, making it easy to explore the area without a car.

Duinrell in October

We visited Duinrell in October and the weather was ideal. I’m not sure if we were just really lucky but it was so sunny that we were able to walk around with just jumpers and even t-shirts. I would also say the Autumn is a great time to visit as theme parks peak summer are quite over stimulating in the heat!

The outdoor amusement park typically closes for the season by mid-October, with Tikibad remaining open year-round as the primary attraction. Families planning autumn breaks should verify exact closing dates when booking, as weather conditions can affect outdoor ride operations.

The shoulder season brings noticeably thinner crowds and significantly lower accommodation rates compared to school holiday periods. However, the reduced footfall means some on-site facilities operate on restricted schedules.

The proximity to Amsterdam becomes particularly valuable during autumn visits, with the journey from Duinrell Eurocamp to Amsterdam taking just 40 minutes by train—perfect for day trips when park facilities wind down.

Exploring Duinrell by Bicycle

Cycling is an integral part of Dutch culture, and Duinrell makes it easy to embrace this with bike rentals. We cycled to the nearby beach, explored the beautiful autumnal woods, and stumbled upon a café serving the best apple cakes and pancakes. These moments on two wheels added an extra layer of charm to our Duinrell holiday.

The resort provides bike rental directly on-site, with options ranging from standard adult bikes to tandem models and child trailers. Most accommodation providers, including Eurocamp at Duinrell, suggest studying the Duinrell Eurocamp map before arrival to identify key locations. You can ride around the park itself or explore the wider area easily on bike too.

Nearby Attractions: Voorlinden Museum and Madurodam

Beyond Duinrell’s gates, two exceptional Dutch attractions sit within easy cycling distance, offering cultural enrichment for families considering visiting beyond typical Duinrell Eurocamp weather patterns.

Voorlinden Museum, just 2km away, showcases contemporary art in a stunning architectural space with rotating exhibitions that even engage younger visitors.

Madurodam, located 6km north in The Hague, presents miniature Netherlands in intricate 1:25 scale—complete with tiny windmills, canals, and replicas of Amsterdam’s historic buildings.

Both attractions work particularly well during rainy spells when outdoor park activities lose appeal. Families often combine these visits with Den Haag exploration, creating fuller day trips from the Duinrell base.

Visiting Den Haag from Duinrell

Den Haag (The Hague) sits just 15 kilometers from Duinrell, making it an accessible day trip for families seeking urban exploration alongside their holiday park adventure. The Dutch seat of government and home to the International Court of Justice offers a striking contrast to the resort’s woodland setting.

The city’s compact layout makes it remarkably family-friendly. With the iconic Binnenhof parliament complex, Mauritshuis museum (featuring Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring), and the beach district of Scheveningen all within easy reach. Unlike activities on site at Duinrell, Den Haag experiences require planning around opening hours and seasonal variations. On the days we weren’t spending a full day at the park, we split our time between morning cultural exploration, afternoon beach time and returning to Duinrell for evening swimming or entertainment.

The practical advantage of staying at Duinrell while exploring Den Haag centers on flexibility . Families can retreat to familiar accommodation when children get tired, avoiding the pressure to maximise expensive city-center hotel rates.

Embracing the Duinrell Magic

The real magic of Duinrell reveals itself in unexpected moments. Watching our kids confidently navigate the park independently, experiencing genuine Dutch hospitality, and discovering that successful family holidays balance adventure with simplicity. The combination of accessible thrills, cultural immersion, and genuine European charm creates something distinctly different from typical resort experiences.

What travelers consistently highlight in review Reddit discussions and family forums is the park’s ability to foster independence while maintaining safety. Teenagers explore freely, younger children build confidence, and parents relax knowing boundaries are clear. This atmosphere transforms typical family getaway experiences into something more meaningful.

Every day at Duinrell brought a new adventure. Whether riding the attractions at Duinrell theme park, splashing in the Tikibad, or cycling through picturesque paths, the park offers a perfect mix of excitement and relaxation. Evenings were spent strolling through the park or enjoying meals on our Eurocamp decking.

FAQ about our stay at Duinrell – Answered
Can you provide tips for getting the most out of a stay at Duinrell Eurocamp?

Arrive early on your check-in day. Accommodation typically become available by 4 PM, but reaching the park by mid-afternoon gives time to orient yourself. The on-site shop stocks essentials but charges premium prices. I’d recommend stocking up at a local Dutch supermarket beforehand for breakfast supplies and snacks. We picked up items onsite on our first night and then cycled to town the next day for more items.

Download offline maps of both the holiday park and Tikibad water complex. The park’s layout proves straightforward once familiar, but first-time guests often spend unnecessary time searching for facilities. Pack a waterproof phone pouch for the water park—keeping locker keys and capturing spontaneous moments becomes significantly easier.

Visit Tikibad during breakfast hours when possible, as morning sessions see noticeably lighter crowds than afternoon peaks. Similarly, the theme park rides experience shorter queues during evening hours when many families return to accommodations for dinner. This strategic timing maximizes attraction access without the frustration of extended waits.

How accessible is Duinrell Eurocamp for guests with mobility issues?

Duinrell’s hilly terrain presents genuine challenges for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. The park’s natural landscape creates slopes between accommodations and facilities that can prove exhausting without assistance. However, adapted accommodation options exist with wider doorways and level access, though availability remains limited and requires early booking.

What are the peak times to avoid crowds at Duinrell Eurocamp?

School holidays transform Duinrell. Weekends during Dutch and UK half-term breaks (particularly Easter and summer) see the highest visitor numbers. With queue times for popular rides stretching beyond 45 minutes. Weekdays during term time offer dramatically shorter waits, though the water park’s appeal ensures consistent attendance year-round. We found in October we were rarely queuing for more than ten minutes.

Early mornings before 11 AM provide the best window for accessing Tiki Pool. Similarly, arriving at the theme park right at opening (typically 10 AM) lets you experience headline attractions like the Falcon roller coaster with minimal queuing before day-visitor crowds arrive mid-morning.

July and August represent absolute peak season—accommodation fills months in advance, and the park reaches capacity on sunny weekends. Consider visiting in May, June, or September when Dutch schools remain in session but weather still supports outdoor activities. These shoulder periods deliver the same facilities with significantly reduced crowds. Making them ideal for families seeking a more relaxed experience without sacrificing the full Duinrell offering.

The Rides Are Completely Free

Unlimited amusement park access is included with your accommodation—no daily entry fees, no per-ride charges, no wristbands to purchase. This represents significant value compared to traditional theme parks, where admission alone typically costs €30-40 per person. Your Eurocamp booking covers unlimited access to Duinrell’s 40+ attractions, from roller coasters to water slides.

Is Duinrell the Best Eurocamp in the Netherlands?

Duinrell consistently ranks as the premier Eurocamp destination in the Netherlands. Combining the convenience of accommodation with an on-site theme park creates an unmatched value proposition. The integration of unlimited amusement park access directly from your holiday home, eliminates the logistical complexities typical of separate park visits.

The strategic coastal location near The Hague provides exceptional versatility. Families can seamlessly blend beach days with theme park thrills, while maintaining easy access to Dutch cultural attractions and historic cities. A combination rarely found at other Eurocamp locations.

However if you were to ask us our very favourite theme park in the Netherlands? It’s still Efteling.

An Honest Family Review

Bottom line: Duinrell delivers a well-balanced holiday experience that combines convenience with genuine family fun. The accommodations feel comfortable rather than luxurious, while the theme park access justifies the premium pricing. Most families find the combination of onsite entertainment and easy Netherlands exploration creates memorable experiences without the typical holiday stress.

For those seeking a mix of adventure, comfort, and culture, Duinrell Eurocamp is one of the best Eurocamp sites in the Netherlands. We can’t wait to return to this magical destination!
