Landal Dylan Coastal Resort: A Coastal Escape in Laugharne, Wales
Having spent my university years in Carmarthen, I know the stunning coastline of Carmarthenshire well. That being said, as we walked up the hill to our holiday lodge at Landal Dylan Coastal Resort, I couldn’t help but be amazed by the breathtaking views over the Taff Estuary.

Our Stay at Landal Dylan Coastal Resort
We stayed in the Milkwood Lodges—an homage to Dylan Thomas, the poet who famously lived in Laugharne. The lodge itself was fantastic. Our three-bedroom lodge had two bathrooms and a spacious open-plan kitchen/lounge area. The lodges are brilliantly equipped for families, even featuring a washing machine and dryer—an absolute lifesaver when traveling with young children. If you’re looking for coastal cottages with hot tubs, this is the perfect place!
We were lucky enough to have a private hot tub on our decking, along with an outdoor dining area. Sipping a glass of fizz while gazing over the estuary was pure bliss. The Dylan Coastal Resort in Laugharne also features one of the most beautiful swimming pools I’ve ever seen—perfect for a relaxing dip after a day of exploring.

Things to Do Near Coastal Cove Resort in Laugharne
A short walk from the lodges takes you to Dylan Thomas’s Writing Shed and the Boathouse Dylan Thomas once called home. You can visit both, but keep in mind that the Boathouse is only open from Thursday onwards. We visited on our last day and enjoyed a delicious cream tea in the garden. While there, we met an American couple who had traveled to see the home of this legendary poet. One was a writer, the other an illustrator, and they shared their work with our children—such a lovely encounter!
The village of Laugharne is just a short stroll from the resort. We walked around the estuary, grabbed an ice cream, and stocked up on local produce at the Ferryman Delicatessen. If you need additional supplies, there’s also a larger mini-mart in the village. Laugharne is home to some fantastic restaurants and pubs, making it a great place to unwind and soak up the charm of this historic coastal town.

Getting to The Dylan Coastal Resort in Laugharne
We traveled by train from Bristol to Carmarthen and then took a bus to the resort. Buses run hourly, but check the timetable as some depart from the train station while others leave from the bus station. The journey takes about 30 minutes, and from the Laugharne bus stop, it’s just a five-minute walk to reception.
Exploring Pendine Sands Beach and Nearby Attractions
One unexpected perk of staying at Landal Dylan Coastal Resort was its proximity to the stunning Pendine Sands Beach, just a 30-minute bus ride away. Backed by dunes and stretching for seven miles, this beach is perfect for families. We spent an entire day building sandcastles, eating chips and ice cream, and enjoying the sea air. Pendine Beach is a must-visit if you’re in the area.
Laugharne itself is packed with history, including the famous Laugharne Castle and Browns Hotel, a favorite haunt of Dylan Thomas. For those interested in literature, visiting Dylan Thomas’s grave is a poignant experience. Laugharne is often referred to as the strangest town in Wales due to its fascinating history and artistic legacy.
If you have a car, I highly recommend a day trip to Tenby. If you’re wondering, how far is Laugharne from Tenby?—it’s about a 40-minute drive, and well worth it for its picturesque harbor, sandy beaches, and charming streets.

Dining and Accommodation at Landal Dylan Coastal Resort
As the lodges at Landal Dylan Coastal Resort are self-catering, we cooked most of our meals in our lodge. However, we did visit the on-site restaurant once and had a lovely meal. While there weren’t many dairy-free options for Mabli, the staff were incredibly accommodating, customizing meals and even creating a special pudding just for her!
We had such a wonderful break at Landal Dylan Coastal Resort in Laugharne and are already planning to check out their other locations. We could have easily stayed longer and used it as a base to explore more of Carmarthenshire, Wales.
