Oystercatcher in Benllech – A home away from home on the northern coast of beautiful Anglesey

Nestled in the heart of Benllech, a vibrant village on the northern coast of Anglesey, Wales, lies “Oystercatcher”, a hidden gem by cottages.com that promises a serene escape into this beautiful part of the world. This enchanting retreat is not just a holiday cottage in Wales; it’s a doorway to memories, offering a seamless blend of homely comfort and the allure of the Welsh coastline.

We took a week’s long holiday here as a family and it’s one I think we will be talking about for years to come. Having not explored much of the North of Wales and wanted to retrace some of the steps of my ancestors who herald from here it was the ideal base for a week of adventuring and making memories together.

If you are looking for beach cottages then this beautiful one on Benllech beach is a great option! If you are coming via public transport like we did then you can get the bus from Bangor train station to Benllech.

Holiday cottage in Wales – The Allure of Benllech and “Oystercatcher”

Benllech, celebrated for its sprawling, golden beaches and crystal-clear waters, serves as the perfect backdrop for “Oystercatcher”. The cottage’s namesake, an emblematic bird often spotted along the coast, embodies the spirit of exploration and serenity that awaits guests. As you step into this idyllic setting, the rush of daily life fades, replaced by the soothing sounds of rolling waves and rustling leaves.

Whilst I think it’s pretty safe to say we experienced ALL the weather conditions during our week here we did manage a few days taking advantage of the stunning Benllech beach and beach walk over to Red Wharf Bay.

Embracing the Charm

“Oystercatcher” exemplifies the quintessential holiday cottage in Wales experience, balancing rustic beach home with modern conveniences. Traditionally designed, yet equipped with contemporary amenities, the cottage ensures a comfortable stay without sacrificing the cultural essence of a Welsh holiday.

The heart of the cottage is its living area, a cosy space where families can gather to share stories or snuggle up with a book by the fireplace, making those chilly Welsh evenings something to look forward to.

The hosts at this gorgeous holiday cottage in Wales also left a full stock of DVDs and board games for us to play on the days that the weather was not so kind to us. The kids had great fun playing Twister and Scrabble.

The Call of the Outdoors

One of the cottage’s crowning glories is its proximity to nature. Whether it’s the gardens with their view of the sea or the nearby beaches calling for a day under the sun, “Oystercatcher” is an ode to the great outdoors. A decking area provides the perfect stage for an evening of stargazing, adding to the cottage’s charm.

Modern Comforts in a Rustic Retreat

Despite its nod to tradition, “Oystercatcher” does not shy away from offering the comforts of modern living. A fully equipped kitchen empowers guests to whip up delicious meals, perhaps with locally sourced food (I recommend Dylan’s Menai Bridge) or the area also has plenty of small supermarkets and restaurants. The balance of old-world charm with the necessities of today’s lifestyle makes this cottage an ideal retreat for all ages.

Bedrooms: A Dreamy Escape

The sleeping quarters in “Oystercatcher” promise a restful night’s sleep, with plush bedding and tranquil decor that mirrors the peacefulness of Benllech. Each room is thoughtfully designed to ensure privacy and comfort, making it a cozy retreat after a day of exploration. Whilst we were only a family of four the cottage sleeps eight and would be perfect for a trip with friends or extended family.

Adventures at Your Doorstep

For the adventurous at heart, Benllech and its surroundings offer a plethora of activities. From hiking trails that meander through stunning landscapes to exploring hidden gardens. The cottage’s location also makes it a convenient base for exploring historical sites, engaging in wildlife spotting, or simply finding solace in the serene beauty of Anglesey.

During our stay, we visited the following destinations that I would recommend if you decided to holiday in North Wales.

Conwy Castle and the smallest house in Great Britain
Hidden Gardens – Plas Cadnant Gardens – Menai Bridge
Menai Bridge
Lligwy Bay
Church Island

Where to Eat

First and foremost a chip dinner on the beach is pretty much law on a seaside holiday. On Sunday we took a stroll across Benllech beach to Red Wharfs Bay and had an incredible roast at The Ship Inn. Another meal we had out to note was Anne’s Pantry on Moelfre, I had the Buddha bowl and my twelve-year-old loved the Bang Bang Cauliflower tacos. The cream tea at the Hidden Gardens was also fantastic. We also had a drink (and a game of UNO) at Dylan’s on Menai Bridge, the food looked fantastic too.
