We recently stayed at this Eurocamp and came away understanding exactly why so many families return year after year. From the excellent pool complex and comfortable accommodation to the easy access to Sitges and Barcelona, it offers everything needed for a memorable family holiday without the premium price tag that often comes with most Mediterranean resorts.
Why Choose Eurocamp El Garrofer?
One of the biggest attractions of Camping El Garrofer is its location. Situated in Sitges on Spain’s Costa Dorada, the campsite is approximately 25 minutes from Barcelona Airport and around a 15-minute walk from Sitges’ beautiful beaches. This makes it one of the most accessible Eurocamp destinations in Spain, particularly for families travelling with young children. The campsite is also well positioned for day trips into Barcelona, making it ideal for families who want more than just a poolside holiday.
Unlike some larger holiday parks that can feel overwhelming, El Garrofer strikes a nice balance. It’s large enough to offer plenty of facilities, but compact enough that you never feel like you’re spending your holiday walking from one end of the resort to the other.
The setting itself is beautiful. Mature trees provide welcome shade during the hottest parts of the day, while the landscaped grounds create a relaxed atmosphere that feels very different from the concrete-heavy resorts found elsewhere along the Spanish coast. We even had Parakeets in the trees directly outside our decking which was a real treat!
Accommodation at Eurocamp El Garroter
Eurocamp offers a range of accommodation options at El Garrofer, including mobile homes and lodges suitable for couples, families and larger groups.
We stayed in a Eurocamp Premium lodge and found it to be very clean, practical and well-equipped for a family holiday. While accommodation is naturally more compact than a villa or apartment, it provides everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen area made self-catering easy, while the outdoor decking became one of our favourite places to relax in the evenings.
One of the advantages of staying with Eurocamp is that you get the flexibility of a self-catering holiday combined with access to excellent campsite facilities. Being able to prepare breakfasts and some evening meals yourself helps stretch the holiday budget further, especially when travelling with children. Personally we find this works much better for our children who has different dietary needs and a more relaxed atmosphere in the evening when tiredness is creeping in.
That being said there are excellent options for eating out on site and we dinned at the pizza restaurant on our last night which was fantastic.
The Pool at Eurocamp El Garrofer
The swimming pool area is undoubtedly one of the highlights of Camping El Garrofer.
We were pleasantly surprised with just how aesthetic the pool area was. Surrounded by palm trees (and fake grass around the sun lounge areas) it felt like a much more relaxing spot then some more concrete pools we’ve been to before. There is also plenty of space around the pool for relaxing, although it can get busy during peak summer periods. We visited in May half term and always found there to be plenty of space to grab a sun lounger or pop our towels out onto the grass.
Our children spent hours enjoying the slides and water features. My ten year old actually finally took off her float aid and took steps to learning to swim which was incredible to see. I think because the pool offered a mix of shallow and deeper areas it felt very safe for her to experiment and by the end of the week she was putting her head under water! It is also a salt water pool which we really appreciated and genuinely felt heated and warm.
There was also a baby and toddler area, offering enough excitement to keep them entertained without feeling intimidating. Whilst older children will naturally gravitate towards the larger slides and swimming areas. My teenager really appreciated the slides in particular. To be honest I think the pool alone would justify choosing Eurocamp El Garrofer over other campsites in the region.
Facilities Around the Campsite
One of the reasons Eurocamp holidays remain so popular with families is the convenience of having everything close at hand.
At Eurocamp El Garrofer you’ll find:
- A restaurant serving local dishes and a pizza restaurant with lots of family favourites
- Poolside snack and drinks options
- A small on-site supermarket that is reasonably priced
- Children’s play areas
- Seasonal entertainment (a kids club was running on the weekends during our stay but more is on offer during the summer)
- Bike hire opportunities
- Family activities during the summer months
The on-site restaurant is ideal for those evenings when nobody feels like cooking. We tended to eat lunches out and about when we were visiting Sitges / Barcelona or the beach but we ate at the pizza restaurant on the last day. Meanwhile, the campsite shop stocks holiday essentials, although we found larger supermarkets walkable nearby offered better value for a full grocery shop.
The atmosphere throughout the campsite is relaxed and family-focused. El Garrofer is not a loud party destination although we found it got busier during the weekend when local families would visit.
Exploring Sitges
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Camping El Garrofer is its proximity to Sitges.
Often described as one of Spain’s most attractive seaside towns, Sitges combines beautiful beaches with charming streets and excellent tapas restaurants. We quickly fell in love with Sitges. The promenade is perfect for evening strolls, while the old town offers plenty of opportunities to explore narrow streets filled with shops, cafes and local restaurants. If you are visiting over a weekend be sure to visit the Palau do Marciel as it’s only open on Sundays.
We really appreciated the town’s clean beaches and relaxed atmosphere. There are several beach options available to the site, one within 15 minutes of the site. We preferred to visit this one due to its close location and the fact it had cove like entrances to the sea making it very safe and child friendly.
Compared with some of Spain’s larger tourist resorts, Sitges feels authentic while still offering all you would need.
Day Trips to Barcelona
If you’re looking for a family holiday near Barcelona, Eurocamp El Garrofer is an excellent choice.
Barcelona is easily accessible from Sitges by either coach or train, making day trips easy and affordable. The journey takes 40 minutes by train from Sitges or one hour by coach from just outside the camp. This allows visitors to explore famous attractions before returning to the calmer surroundings of the campsite. We actually felt like one day in Barcelona was enough but returned frequently to Sitges.
During our day trip to Barcelona we visited Parc Guell which is a must see BUT I would advise you to book your tickets at least one day in advance and not on the day as we did! You do need to book in advance online as entrance on the door is often sold out.
Is Eurocamp El Garrofer Good Value?
In our opinion, without a doubt yes.
One of the reasons we chose Eurocamp El Garrofer was the opportunity to enjoy a Spanish family holiday without spending a fortune.
When compared with hotels or resorts near Sitges, (especially during school holidays), Eurocamp accommodation offers amazing value. The ability to self-cater not only helps reduce food costs but makes for a more relaxed break, while the included facilities provide entertainment without additional expense.
The location also helps save money. Barcelona Airport is nearby, reducing transfer costs, while great public transport links mean you don’t need to hire a car.
