If you’re looking for a campsite that combines the beauty of nature with the comfort of modern facilities, Huttopia Arcachon is likely to appear on your shortlist. Nestled in a peaceful pine forest on France’s stunning Atlantic coast, this popular campsite promises a unique mix of camping, glamping and outdoor adventure just minutes from the beautiful beaches of Arcachon Bay.
After researching the campsite, reading hundreds of guest reviews, and looking at what it offers, here’s an honest look at what you can expect when staying at Huttopia Arcachon.

First Impressions of Huttopia Arcachon
One of the biggest selling points of Huttopia Arcachon is its location. This campsite in France is tucked away among towering pine trees. The woodland setting immediately creates a peaceful atmosphere that feels far removed from the crowds, despite being only around 1.8km from Arcachon’s beaches and town centre.
Instead of perfectly manicured rows of accommodation, everything blends into the forest, making it feel more like staying in nature than on a typical commercial campsite.
Accommodation Options
One thing Huttopia does particularly well is offering accommodation for every style of guest. If camping isn’t quite your style, there are several glamping options including safari-style tents, wooden chalets and family lodges. We stayed in a six person chalet with separate toilet and shower room and a combined living room/ kitchen area.
One thing to note is that this is an eco campsite the accommodation doesn’t come with air con. We stayed during a heatwave in France and although they do provide fans the chalet does get very hot inside.

Facilities Around the Campsite
Although Huttopia Arcachon focuses on nature, it doesn’t feel basic.
The heated swimming pool is one of this sites highlights. It’s large enough for families of all ages to enjoy and includes areas suitable for younger children. While it won’t compete with massive waterpark-style campsites, it provides a relaxing place to cool off after a day exploring the region. We were really appreciative of it in the 42 degree heatwave!
Facilities we loved as a family on this site :
- Table tennis tables (you can pick up the bats and balls from reception)
- Outdoor pool with lots of areas to lounge around it.
- Space around our chalet to relax on the porch.
Bike hire is another major advantage. Arcachon and the surrounding coastline are famous for their excellent cycling routes. We didn’t take advantage of these during our stay due to the high temperatures but it would be great for a stay in cooler months!
The campsite also offers:
- Fresh bread and pastries each morning
- A small grocery shop
- Laundry facilities
- Restaurant (in peak seasons)
- Bar
- Pizza takeaway (in peak seasons)
- Free Wi-Fi in communal areas
The Woodland Setting
The forest is undoubtedly what makes Huttopia Arcachon special.
Instead of open, exposed pitches, the trees provide welcome shade during the hot summer months. Sounds of birds and nature can be heard throughout the day, and the atmosphere feels calm even when the campsite is relatively busy.
For anyone wanting to disconnect from everyday life, it’s difficult to beat waking up beneath tall pine trees before enjoying breakfast on your wooden porch. The site also felt very safe and we often let our children go for trips up the shop on site for things like lollies and cold drinks.
Location: Exploring Arcachon Bay
The campsite’s location is another huge advantage.
Within just a few minutes by bike or car you can reach:
- Arcachon’s beautiful sandy beaches
- The beautiful town centre with lots of boutiques
- Local seafood restaurants
- Markets
- Cycle paths
- Boat trips around Arcachon Bay
The famous Dune du Pilat—the tallest sand dune in Europe—is also only a short drive away and is arguably one of southwest France’s must-see attractions. Again we weren’t lucky with the weather when we visited so the heatwave didn’t allow for us to make this trip but we would love to come back.
Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the surrounding forests and coastal trails, while families have plenty of beaches suitable for swimming and paddleboarding. I think the location strikes an great balance between peaceful woodland and easy access to major attractions.
Food and Dining
Rather than offering an extensive menu, the resteruant focuses on simple meals such as pizzas, snacks and drinks. We visited mid week and so we wen’t able to try these options but we really appreciated the drinks and snacks on offer. The outdoor terrace overlooking the pool is a great place to spend an evening after a day at the beach.
Morning bread deliveries are another popular feature, allowing you to enjoy fresh French pastries without leaving the campsite.
If you’re planning a stay, you’ll probably want to alternate between cooking at your accommodation and eating out in Arcachon. We ate out one evening at an amazing place called Alma Mia which I can really recommend. Their signature dish the pistachio pesto pasta was incredible.
Is It Good Value?
Compared with many large resort-style campsites, Huttopia Arcachon sits somewhere in the middle of the market. It’s certainly not the cheapest camping option available, but you’re paying for an exceptional location, quality facilities and the unique woodland setting.
If you’re looking for peaceful surroundings, comfortable accommodation and easy access to one of France’s most beautiful coastlines, then I think the price is really reasonable for what’s on offer.
Who Is Huttopia Arcachon Best For?
This campsite is ideal for:
- Families with young children
- Couples looking for a relaxing getaway
- Nature lovers
- Cyclists
- Glamping enthusiasts
